I am responding to John Baker’s editorial published in the weekend edition of April 20-21, which he wrote in reply to William St. Louis’ commentary entitled, “Wild West right here in S.C.,” which appeared in the March 30 edition.
I do not know Mr. Baker. I am not a member of the NRA; I do not own or possess a firearm of any kind and have no intention of buying one. However I do appreciate, as a law-abiding citizen, that I have the right to do so.
Hence, it is not my purpose to debate the gun-control controversy. Mr. Baker has done that far better that I can. My purpose is to commend Mr. Baker on the well-researched and well-stated facts he shared with readers pertaining to this hotly debated issue.
Most reasonable persons, of which I aspire to be, pay attention to facts when presented in a manner that are easily understandable with well-referenced evidence. Mr. Baker does that quite well in all the columns he submits to The Lancaster News.
I would encourage all writers to follow his lead. Readers respond appropriately to facts and, I would think, appreciate those who present them well.
Well done, Mr. Baker. Please continue to share with us your knowledge and your carefully presented articles. In my opinion, it is an enlightening pleasure to read your work.
Thank you for your efforts. Your informative article is worth saving for future reference.
