LANCASTER, S.C. — Mrs. Mary Alice Hilton Belk, 83, of Lancaster passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Piedmont Medical Center.
She was born July 31, 1940, in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Andrew Carnegie Hilton and Annie Belle McMurray Hilton. She was married to James L. “Jimmy” Belk.
Mrs. Belk was retired from Lancaster County, where she served Lancaster County for 29 years, the last 2½ years as county yreasurer, the first female to serve in that position in Lancaster County. Mrs. Belk was a member of Crestview Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Senior Circle, Young at Heart Seniors Crestview and was a past worthy matron of the Eastern Star. She was a wonderful loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Belk will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 25, at Crestview Baptist Church, with the Rev. Cody Huneycutt officiating. Burial will be in the Westside Cemetery.
Mrs. Belk is survived by her husband, James L. “Jimmy” Belk of Lancaster; a son, James David Belk and his wife, Lori, of West Jefferson, N.C.; a daughter, Debbie Henry and her husband, Charles, of Lancaster; seven grandchildren, Jamie Lee and husband Andy, David Belk II, Dustin Belk and his wife Naomi, Makenzie Henry, Makayla Henry, Charlee Brooke Henry and Jason Shindledecker and his wife Melissa; and two great-grandchildren, Abby and Nova.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, James C. Hilton and Joel C. Hilton; and a sister, Mildred H. Evans.
The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.
