LANCASTER, S.C. — Edna Mae Mills of Lancaster entered into rest Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Hospice & Community Care in Rock Hill, S.C. She had been in declining health for a couple of years.
She was born in Union County, N.C., on Jan. 10, 1960, to the late Johnny B. Mills and Mildred Louise Johnson. She was a former John de la Howe student and a graduate of McCormick High School. She was employed at Walmart Distribution Center, Pageland, S.C., until disabled. She loved animals, photography, flea markets and being out in nature. She was a good cook; her specialties were chicken and dumplings and lemon meringue pies.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Ashley Whitaker; grandson, Quentin Comstock Whitaker; and four sisters, Frances Brewington of Largo, Fla., Patricia A. Pelfrey, Rosa L. Deese, Wanda K. Ellis and Barbara J. Smith, all of Lancaster. She was never married.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Virgil Mills; sister, Shirley Faile; stepfather, Kenneth Bradley; and son-in-law, Nicholas W. Comstock.
She never met a stray animal that she didn’t love; therefore, memorials may be made in her honor to the Lancaster County Animal Shelter at 2074 Pageland Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
