KERSHAW, S.C. — Kershaw Town Council recognized the Andrew Jackson High School girls basketball team for winning the State AA Championship at its March 18 meeting.
Mayor Mark Dorman presented the team with a proclamation commemorating its successful season. Lancaster County Councilor Allen Blackmon also made a presentation to the team on behalf of the county.
First readings
The council unanimously approved the first reading of an ordinance updating the town’s regulations concerning signs on public property. The ordinance will allow one sandwich board-style sign on the sidewalk in front of a business.
The council also unanimously approved an ordinance specifying the town’s bill adjustment policy regarding high usage due to leaks. The ordinance will require the completion of a form to request an adjustment.
Second readings
Second readings of ordinances to annex town-owned property at the end of East Second Street and property at 124 E. First St. were unanimously approved.
A second reading of an ordinance to exchange ownership and responsibility for several streets with the S.C. Department of Transportation was unanimously approved. Under the ordinance, town-owned sections of Blackmon, Oak, West Hilton, West Pine and West Richland streets will be transferred to SCDOT, with the town assuming ownership of Close Circle and the section of North Ingram Street north of Eest Hilton Street.
State Sen. Penry Gustafson made a presentation to the council on the new open carry gun law and other updates from the General Assembly.
The council entered executive session to discuss contractual matters pertaining to the potential lease of property and water and sewer service. No action was taken following executive session.
