PAGELAND, S.C. — Andrew Jackson High School continued its late-season Region 5-2A baseball surge, downing Central High of Pageland, 11-3.
The Volunteers, coming off a region sweep of York Prep of Rock Hill, improved to 5-4 in region play with the eight-run win over the rival Eagles.
Jackson Madden pitched six innings, allowing three runs on two hits, while walking five and striking out 15.
Andrew Jackson scattered a dozen hits in the game and was led by John Mark Sowell, who went 3-4 with three RBIs, including a triple. Lucas Deese and Kenny Bailey each had two hits, while Deese, Madden and Zach Mothershed each added two RBIs in the win.
Andrew Jackson caps region play in the coming week when the Vols face rival North Central High School.
Jackets swarm Patriots in win
LANCASTER, S.C. — The Buford High School baseball team continues to shine on the prep diamond.
The 18-1 Jackets, who are unbeaten in Region 5-2A play, pounded York Prep, 13-0, on Tuesday, April 16, in Rock Hill.
Buford, up 2-0 after four innings, ignited for 11 runs in the fifth frame to close out the game due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Buford pounded out 14 hits on the way to the lopsided win over the Patriots. Buford had six extra base hits, including a pair of homers.
Brayden Morgan had two hits, including a homer, with three RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base.
Hunter Gainey belted a home run to go with four RBIs and scored a run.
Trey Ewing keyed the Buford offense with three hits with an RBI, stolen base and two runs scored.
Jackson Sellers supplied two hits, including a double, with two RBIs and scored a run. Tanner Sellers had a pair of hits, including a double, and scored a run.
Gavin Lowery drilled a double and drove in a run, with a walk and two runs scored. Jayden McKenzie rapped a double to go with an RBI and a run scored.
Mason Deese delivered in the Jackets’ hit parade with a single and scored two runs. Austin Catlege added a hit and a walk.
Gainey earned the win, working four innings and striking out seven, with one hit allowed and a hit batsman.
Kobe Adams pitched one inning and fanned one to complete the shutout.
Buford wraps up region play, facing Cheraw High School next week.
