Trash collection sites not convenient
If you’ve spent any time on Lancaster County roads, you’ve undoubtedly noticed we have a litter problem.
Willfully throwing trash on the side of the road serves only to confirm preconceived notions held by snobs up in Washington, D.C., and New York about rural Southerners.
Take pride in where you live. That being said, our county government shoulders at least partial blame for this problem.
Lancaster County operates 12 household waste collection sites. These sites, unironically called “convenience centers” by the county, are open for only 32 hours per week.
Reader, only the government could get away with describing a facility open three and a half days per week as “convenient.”
For the sake of comparison, sites in Kershaw County are open 64 hours per week. York County sites are open 60 hours per week.
Contact your County Council member and tell them Lancaster County taxpayers deserve and expect a similar level of service.
