INDIAN LAND, S.C. — Zack Davis will bring Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream to Indian Land’s RedStone entertainment and shopping center this spring.
The shop, which will be located in the former Menchie’s spot, will be Davis’ second Handel’s location. When he opened his Gastonia, N.C., shop in January 2022, it was the first Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream in the Southeast.
The company was started in 1945 by Alice Handel and has 125 franchise stores in 12 states.
Davis is no stranger to the idea of franchising.
“I worked at my father’s CiCi’s Pizza franchise during high school,” he said. Today, his parents own four Nothing Bundt Cakes franchises. Davis’ sister owns a Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream shop in Charlotte, N.C.
The decision to open an ice cream shop in Indian Land was an easy one for Davis. He grew up in Union County, attended Weddington High School, and is familiar with the growth and opportunities available in Indian Land.
The ice cream is made fresh daily in the store. Forty-eight of the 100 flavors are available every day.
“We rotate the flavors to find out what people like. Some flavors are more popular than others. The quality is always exceptional and the price is affordable,” Davis said.
There will be lights and family-friendly music throughout the day to provide a festive atmosphere on the patio.
Davis’ wife Jenna helps out at the Gastonia location when she can. They have been married for four years and have two children, Max, 3, and Beau, 1.
The Indian Land location will conduct a hiring event and employ 25-30 high school and college students for the summer. Look for its opening day the first week in April.
The new Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream will be at 9716 Red Stone Drive, Suite 100. It will offer walk-up service with ample seating on the open patio. Hours are expected to be 11 a.m.-10 p.m. daily. For more information, visit handelsicecream.com.
