April CAC Conversation: Noon April 3 at the Lancaster Cultural Arts Center, 307 W. Gay St., Lancaster. Fergus M. Bordewich, author of “Klan War: Ulysses S. Grant and the Battle to Save Reconstruction,” will give a free hour-long talk on President Grant’s federal campaign against the Ku Klux Klan and draw parallels to the violent intimidation used by white supremacists and radical insurrectionists today. Hanging Rock Battlefield Park Day: 9 a.m. April 6 at the intersection of Beecher Horton and Flat Rock roads, Heath Springs. KVLT bird counts/nature walks: The Katawba Valley Land Trust will hold two walks at 8 a.m. April 20 at Rocky Creek and Landsford Canal State Park. The Rocky Creek walk will begin at the Rocky Creek Trailhead parking lot at 1030 Chester Ave., Great Falls, led by retired state park biologist and naturalist Irvin Pitts. The other walk will begin in the lower parking lot at Landsford Canal State Park, 2051 Park Drive, Catawba, and retired Winthrop University biology professor Dr. Bill Rogers will lead it.
