LANCASTER, S.C. — The Lancaster Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred Monday night in downtown Lancaster.
According to Lancaster Police, at 10:24 p.m. March 25, an 18-year-old Lancaster man was shot while driving on St. Paul Street at Witherspoon Street.
The victim called 911 and told authorities he had been shot and was lying in a nearby field.
Police found the victim about 75 yards from his car near North Hughes Street. The victim was initially transported to MUSC Health-Lancaster and then airlifted to another hospital for further treatment.
The victim is currently in stable condition, according to Lancaster Police. His identity is being withheld pending his family being notified.
Lancaster Police are investigating whether this shooting is connected to other nearby shootings in the past few days.
“Stopping these violent acts is the top priority of the men and women of the Lancaster Police Department. Our residents deserve a safe neighborhood to live in and raise their families,” said Lancaster Police Chief Don Roper.
“Our members will continue to work tirelessly to identify, apprehend and charge the persons responsible for committing violence in Lancaster. We ask anyone with information that may help stop these shootings to please contact us without delay.”
