  • Rock Hill downs P-31 in opener

    Rock Hill Post 34 broke to an early lead and stayed on top to take a 6-2 win over Lancaster Post 31 in American Legion baseball League III play on Wednesday night.
    The game at P-31’s Harvey Eggleton Field was the opener for both teams to launch the 2019 American Legion baseball season.

  • P-31 upbeat about new season

    Lancaster American Legion Post 31 second-year coach Jimmy Jackson is optimistic about his P-31 team as it prepares to open the 2019 season tonight at home against Rock Hill Post 34.
    Jackson will guide the senior team and be assisted by Brian Sistare and Toby Taylor, who are back from last season.
    “Overall, we are excited in the direction of the program,” Jackson said. “We have brought the junior team back this season and we totaled over 40 kids that came out for Legion baseball.

    I easily recall that memorable Sunday morning at First Presbyterian Church some years back when Sarah Crolley told me her husband Don Crolley was going into the Lancaster County School District Hall of Fame.
    “It’s about time,” was my quick reply forgetting for a moment I was at church that Sunday when I was ushering.
    I felt the same when news of the induction of Ernie Clyburn was recently announced.
    Ernie, well as I first knew him, “Mr. Clyburn,” is most deserving of the honor.

  • Record effort tops Rotary 5K

    A course record fell and a husband and wife rose to the occasion to highlight the Lancaster Rotary Club’s Run for Charity in the annual 5K road race at Lancaster High School on Saturday morning.
    Husband and wife runners Nathanael and Molly Williams swept first-ever top honors for the men’s and women’s races.
    Nathanael Williams also set a course record in the 5K race with a 15:46 for the overall win.
    Molly Williams, who posted a 19:26, was the overall female winner.

  • Carolina Chiropractic team wins...

    The Carolina Chiropractic team captured the win in the annual Indian Land Rotary golf tournament at Carolina Lakes Golf Club on May 9.
    The winning team of Adam Bender, Adam Cooper, Damien Bourgeois and Dominic Piccirillo shot a 20-under 52 to capture the win in the captain’s choice tournament, which featured 24 teams.

  • Buford’s Black signs with USCL

    Buford High School soccer standout Jesse Black loves to play the game.
    He’s getting a chance to extend his career on the pitch at the next level.
    Black, a three-year player at Buford High School, is taking his game to the University of South Carolina Lancaster to play for the Lancers.
    USCL has made a play to pad its soccer roster with local players and Black is the latest addition.
    He’s glad for the chance.

  • Racing back on track Saturday

    Lancaster Motor Speedway returns to action Saturday night.
    LMS had an off week last Saturday and Mother Nature has not been to kind to the big half-mile race track over the past month.
    LMS has not seen a race in over a month because of rain and stormy weather, but this Saturday weather is looking favorable for a clear night of racing.
    The Saturday racing card has the Thunder Bomber $1,000 to win, Renegade $600, SECA Crate Sportsman $600, Super Stock (Brandy Baker to start in the rear after 3 straight wins), Pure Stock V8, Vintage and Extreme 4.
