  • LMS ready to rumble

    Lancaster Motor Speedway will be “ready to rumble” for the  Cauthen Motors Renegade Rumble on Saturday night.

    The headline race will be the Cauthen Motors Renegade Rumble, paying $2,000 to win, $1,000 for second and third $500 at the half-mile track.

    With that kind of money on the line and with Carolina Speedway off tonight and Cherokee Speedway off Saturday night, the Renegade Division will likely see some new drivers here on Saturday to compete against the LMS regulars for a chance to win $2,000.

  • Lancaster High netters win,...

    The Lancaster High School boys tennis team is moving on.

    The Bruins, the back-to-back Region III-AAAA tennis champions, advanced to the third round of the Class AAAA Upper State playoffs with a 4-2 win over Wren High School of Piedmont on Tuesday at the University of South Carolina Lancaster tennis courts.

    LHS moves on to play the winner of South Aiken and Greenville.

    Lancaster opened the playoffs with a 5-1 home win over Airport of Columbia last Thursday at the USCL courts.

  • Junior Lady Vols post unbeaten...

    The Andrew Jackson High School Junior Lady Volunteers soccer team capped a perfect season with a 5-2 win over the rival Lancaster High School Junior Lady Bruins on April 26 at Memorial Stadium.

    The AJ girls’ win gave the Junior Lady Vols a 14-0 record for the season, their fifth playing junior varsity girls soccer.

    The AJ jayvee girls booters, with two wins over rival Buford, also captured the region title this season.

  • Lady Warriors drill Crescent

    The defending state champion Indian Land Lady Warriors continue to roll in the Class AAA Upper State girls soccer playoffs.

    The IL girls opened the postseason with a 14-0 win over Southside of Greenville on Monday and followed with an 8-0 rout of Crescent of Iva on Wednesday at the ILHS Reservation.

    Indian Land led 2-0 at the half and added six second-half goals on the way to the win over CHS.

    Kelsey Long and Shelby Ryberg each netted three goals, and Summer Bishop added two goals.

    Emily Gerdes and Carleigh Werner each had an assist.

  • Lady Warriors rebound, win...

    INDIAN LAND – The Indian Land Lady Warriors posted a split, but it was good enough to have them advance to the Class AAA Upper State softball championship series.

    The ILHS girls, unbeaten in the Class AAA Upstate District IV tournament, dropped a 9-7 loss to Broome, but rebounded to take an 8-3 win to capture the crown in the double-elimination district tournament Wednesday at the Lady Warriors field.

    The Lady Warriors’ five-run win advances them to the Class AAA Upper State title round to face Woodruff today in a 6 p.m. game at WHS.

  • Lady Vols win two, take district...

    The Region IV-AA champion Andrew Jackson Lady Volunteers did it the hard way, but the determined AJ girls got it done on the diamond.

    AJ, in a do-or-die situation, notched two wins over host Liberty High School to capture the Class AA Upper State District IV softball championship on Wednesday.

    The 17-9 Lady Vols, who fell to Liberty 9-7 at home Saturday, came back to sweep the Lady Red Devils on Wednesday.

    AJ captured the district title to advance to the Class AA Upstate title series, downing Liberty 8-3 and 10-9.

  • Buford sweeps district...

    BUFORD – Buford, with three straight wins, is headed back to the Class AA Upper State title series to defend its softball crown for the third straight season.

    The Lady Jackets, 15-8, blanked Ninety Six, 4-0 to earn a bid to the Class AA Upper State championship series Wednesday at the BHS field.

    BHS, the Region IV-AA runner-up, won three straight to notch the crown, including the home shutout of the Lady Wildcats.

  • Chris Baker wins M&M Garage...

    Veteran driver Chris Baker is going to remember April 28 for a long time.

    Baker captured his biggest win yet, earning $1,400 on the night and some bonus money Saturday, April 28 in the M&M Garage Muffler and Tire Extreme 4 Shootout.

    Track officials announced the Extreme 4 Shootout had the field inverted.

    This left some of the top dogs in the middle, or rear to have to work their way to the front.

    On the race’s first start, the field didn’t make it out of turn two with a caution, the big pile-up in turn two.

  • Jackets post 2 wins to cap...

    The Buford varsity boys soccer team capped regular season play last week with a 7-0 win at Lewisville on Wednesday, and a 9-1 home win on “Senior Night” on Thursday.

    In the win at Lewisville, the halftime score was 6-0 with goals scored by seniors Zayn Sutton, Blaine Gossman, Nate Purser, Jim Small, and junior Jesse Black.

  • LHS wins tennis playoffs opener

    The Region III-AAAA champion Lancaster High School boys tennis defeated Airport High School of Region IV-AAAA, 5-1 at the USC-Lancaster tennis courts in the first round of Class AAAA Upper State playoffs on Thursday.

    The Bruins, who are region champions for the second straight season, advance to round two Tuesday.
