    BUFORD – Cold shooting plagued Buford teams in a pair of Region IV-AA basketball losses to Cheraw at the BHS gym on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

    The CHS Lady Braves rallied late to gain a 41-39 win over the Lady Jackets and the Braves took a 51-38 win to complete the league sweep.

    CHESTERFIELD – Andrew Jackson High girls used a late surge to secure a hard-fought 37-35 Region IV-AA road win over Chesterfield on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

    The AJ girls’ narrow win gave the Vols a split after the AJ boys dropped a 49-45 loss in overtime.

  • Lady Bruins win, stay unbeaten...

    The Lancaster Lady Bruins ignited in the second period to roll to a 62-23 Region III-AAAA road win over York on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
    LHS, up 15-6 after a period of play, took control in the second quarter with a 21-6 surge to gain a 36-12 lead at the break.
    Senior Aliyah Davis, who netted 12 points, tallied seven in the pivotal second period when Lancaster took control on the way to the 39-point win. Davis also had three steals in the game.

  • IL Warriors spear Eagles

    Indian Land made the most of a Region IV-AA road trip to Pageland where the Warriors, in impressive fashion, swept the host CHS Eagles on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
    The IL boys rolled to a 75-52 league win and the Lady Warriors blitzed the Lady Eagles, 69-37.
    The IL boys took control early, gaining a 22-11 lead after one period. The Warriors held a 35-21 spread at the break and owned a 58-35 edge after three periods.
    Darnell Rogers led Indian Land with 18 points. Lee McCall followed with 12 and Derries Hampton hit 10 points.

    The ninth-ranked Indian Land High wrestling team posted a 4-0 mark in the Region IV-AA Duals at Cheraw High School on Saturday Jan. 18.
    The Warriors highlighted their 4-0 showing with a 37-36 win over host Cheraw.
    IL, knowing it was going to forfeit four weight classes going into the match, needed a total team effort.
    IL’s Dalen Byerley, No. 1 in Class AA at 120, stepped up a weight class and pinned Cheraw’s Luke Curtis, No. 1 in Class AA at 126, in the second period.

    The new Lancaster High School head football coach will be selected from a field of 53 applicants.
    Lancaster High School officials, as part of the early hiring process, cut off applications Friday, Jan. 17.
    “We feel we have a quality field of applicants, a good mix of candidates who are head coaches and some who are assistant coaches from quality high school football programs,” Lancaster High School athletic director Mark Strickland said. “We also have some applicants with college coaching experience.”

    The Buford boys basketball team wrapped up a tough week on the hardwood with a solid win.
    The Jackets capped a sweep of visiting Ben Lippen School of Columbia with a 62-50 victory over the Falcons on Saturday, Jan. 18.
    The BHS Lady Jackets notched their second straight win, topping the BL girls, 44-39.
    The Jackets, coming off region losses to AJ and Central of Pageland, handed Ben Lippen only its second loss of the season in their 12-point victory.
