  • Bruins hold on, split with York Cougars

    Lancaster started like a house afire, but nearly got burned in the Bruins gym on Friday night.
    LHS opened with a blazing 16-0 first quarter, and appeared ready to blitz the visiting York Cougars, but YCHS battled and Lancaster held on for the 51-44 win.
    The Bruins’ seven-point win gave LHS a split after the Lady Bruins dropped a 48-41 loss in the varsity opener.
    In the nightcap, the Bruins started strong, but York steadily fought back to make Lancaster earn the win.

  • Vols sweep Rams in region road wins

    The Andrew Jackson Volunteers notched two road victories from the Chesterfield Rams on Friday night.
    The Lady Vols scored a 44-40 win over Lady Rams. The Volunteers dominated with a 19-point victory, 60-41 over the Rams.
    The Lady Volunteers got off to a slow start in their game.
    The Lady Rams were able to score effectively from the outside.
    The Lady Vols trailed 16-9 at the end of the first quarter. At the half the Lady Vols were down by two, 23-21.

  • District metal detector at AJ Vols game Friday

    The Lancaster County School District will be using its metal detector at the Andrew Jackson High School home basketball game with Lewisville on Friday night.
    LCSD officials offered several tips for fans to help avoid delays entering the game.

  • AJ Vols split matches

    The Andrew Jackson High School Volunteers capped their regular-season wrestling schedule, splitting a three-way match at Camden Military Academy in Camden on Thursday night.
    The Vols, 14-9, captured a 40-21 win over Class AAA member Keenan High School of Columbia, but fell to the host CMA Spartans, 48-30.
    AJ 182-pounder Ryan Hunter, who went 2-0 on the night with a pair of pins, led the Vols’ effort.
    Austin Denkins, in the matches, registered a major decision (four points) and a pin.

  • LHS sweeps to mat wins

    The Lancaster Bruins wrestlers swept a Region III-AAAA tri-match, topping Richland Northeast and Ridge View on Wednesday night at RVHS.
    The region mat sweep helped the Bruins earn a playoff bid to the Class AAAA Upper State playoffs.
    “These were big wins to secure a playoff spot,” LHS coach Russell Brown said. “This young team grew up a little bit.
    “All season we’ve worked to give these guys the best chance to win,” he said.
    The Bruins routed RNE, 72-6 and downed the RVHS Blazers, 48-36.

  • Lady Warriors win for split

    INDIAN LAND – The Indian Land Lady Warriors had plenty to celebrate Wednesday night, but for the ILHS boys it was a tough night at the hoop.
    The Warriors, hosting Parkwood High School of Union County, N.C., split with the Rebels.
    The Lady Warriors notched their first home hoops win of the season, taking a 38-31 win over the Lady Rebels.
    The ILHS boys dropped a last-second loss to the PHS boys.
    The Lady Warriors took the early lead and steadily built their margin for the seven-point win.

  • Vols net sweep of Jackets

    Andrew Jackson took two from rival Buford High School in Region IV-AA basketball Tuesday night in the BHS gym.
    The Lady Volunteers, with a second-half comeback, topped the Lady Jackets, 38-29 and the AJ boys completed the hoops sweep with a solid 63-48 win.
    The girls’ game was tight, with the Lady Vols rallying in the third period to gain the lead and stayed close until a late-game surge netted the win.

  • Sellers wins state wrestling crown

    The Buford Middle School wrestling team wrapped up a stellar mat season Saturday at Lexington High School in the annual Carolina Invitational where Tanner Sellers captured a state crown to complete an unbeaten individual season.
    Sellers went 4-0 on the day, posting pins in all four matches to cap a sterling 29-0 season.
    BMS had three wrestlers qualify for the state tournament, including Ashton Gardner in the 108-pound weight class, Sellers at the 158 weight class and Justin Pardue in the 285-pound weight class.

  • AJ captures two wins over Knights

    KERSHAW – The Andrew Jackson Volunteers notched two Region IV-AA wins over the North Central Knights on Friday night in Kershaw.
    The Lady Volunteers led all four quarters of the game for the 64-44 win.
    At the end of the first quarter, the AJ girls led 11-8 and they took a 26-19 spread at the half.
    In the third quarter, the Lady Vols jumped ahead 51-25 on the way to the 20-point win.

  • Bruins notch two mat wins

    The Lancaster High School wrestling team rebounded from two region losses to post a pair of non-region mat wins on Friday night.
    The Bruins notched wins over Chesterfield and Darlington. LHS dumped the CHS Rams, 54-29, and Darlington, 60-15.
    In the 25-point win over Chesterfield, the Bruins pin winners were Brandon Gomez (126), Connor Sullivan (132), Eric Byrd (160) and Immanuel Bush (285).
