  • Vols net sweep of Bruins

    KERSHAW – It was all Vols on Friday night in the packed Andrew Jackson High School gym.
    The host Andrew Jackson teams registered a sweep of the Class AAAA Lancaster Bruins.
    The AJ girls opened the varsity twin bill with a 56-50 win and the comeback-minded Vols rallied for a 73-70 overtime win over the Bruins to cap the hardwood sweep at the Lancaster County Class AA school.
    AJ senior guard Joey Walters scored seven of his 17 points in overtime to spark the Vols to the emotional victory.

  • Poor shooting plagues ILHS girls

    The Indian Land Lady Warriors, again plagued by poor shooting, dipped to 0-4 on the season, dropping a 66-27 loss to Class AAAAA foe Clover High School on Wednesday night.
    “Poor shooting is haunting us,” ILHS coach Paul Richardson said. “In our first four games, the Lady Warriors have been plagued by poor shooting.
    “We have yet to shoot above 25 percent from the field,” he said.
    Richardson said the Lady Warriors are getting good shots.

  • Bruins post 2 mat wins at NCHS

    The Lancaster Bruins wrestlers, coming off two losses in their mat opener at rival Buford High School on Tuesday night, rebounded to go 2-1 in a quad match at North Central High School in Kershaw County on Thursday night.
    The Bruins, competing in three matches, posted two wins in the matches they wrestled at NCHS.
    Lancaster, guided by first-year coach Russell Brown, topped the A.C. Flora Falcons 40-36 and the Cardinal Newman Cardinals 36-35 to improve to 2-3 on the season.
    Host North Central topped Lancaster High School, 51-24.

  • Jackets wing Eagles twice

    The Buford High School varsity basketball teams returned to the hardwood to notch a sweep in the Jackets gym on Thursday night.
    BHS, facing the Governor’s School of Science and Math, took two from the Eagles.
    The Lady Jackets of first-year coach Susan Scott improved to 2-0 on the season with a 50-33 win in the varsity opener.
    The BHS boys, in the nightcap, completed the hoops broom job, rolling to a 55-23 victory to even their mark at 1-1 on the season.

  • Jackets top Bruins in mat win

    Buford highlighted a three-way wrestling match with a win over rival Lancaster and a loss to Parkwood High School of Union County, N.C., on Tuesday night in the Jackets’ first match in the BHS multi-purpose center.
    The Jackets topped the Bruins, 39-33, but dropped a 45-33 loss to the PHS Rebels.
    In the win over LHS, the Jackets winners were Dylan Jenkins (pin, 113), Max Robinson (disqualification, 126), Devin Jenkins (forfeit, 132), Logan Jaillette (decision, 138), Alex Moore (pin, 145), Blake Bailey (pin, 152) and Webber Moore (pin, 182).

  • Lady Jackets notch win for split with GFHS

    New Buford High School girls varsity basketball coach Susan Scott had a dandy hoops debut Tuesday night to highlight the Jackets’ home twin bill with Great Falls.
    The Lady Jackets started strong on the way to a 52-11 win over the Lady Red Devils.
    In the nightcap, Great Falls prevailed with a 72-55 win.
    In the opener, Buford bolted to an 11-0 lead on the way to the 41-point victory.
    The Lady Jackets led 21-5 at the half and owned a 39-6 spread after three periods.

  • Falcons take two from Bruins

    The Lancaster Bruins had a tough start in their regular-season basketball home opener with Nation Ford of Tuesday night.
    The Lady Bruins dropped a 76-46 loss in the varsity opener and the LHS boys fell, 71-40 in the nightcap.
    In both games, the visiting Falcons surged in the second half to take control on the way to lopsided wins.
    Lancaster, in the nightcap, came out slow on the way to the 31-point loss.

  • Volunteers sweep Warriors

    KERSHAW – The Andrew Jackson Volunteers opened their 2018-19 regular-season basketball campaign in impressive fashion Tuesday night.
    The host Lady Vols rolled by Indian Land, 47-25 and the Vols notched an 84-56 win.
    The Lady Vols, of coach Olivia Gaines, opened with a 9-3 lead after one quarter. AJ was on top, 20-17 at the half.
    The Lady Vols pushed their lead to 32-19 at the end of the third quarter before taking the 22-point win.

  • Three Yellow Jackets go unbeaten in mat tourney

    Five Buford High School wrestlers posted solid showings, including three Yellow Jackets who went unbeaten in a prep wrestling tournament Saturday at Parkwood High School in Union County, N.C.
    The BHS Jackets mat trio of Blake Bailey, Max Robinson and Tucker Sellers each posted a 4-0 mark in the field.
    Robinson wrestled at 132, while Bailey worked between 145-152 during the one-day tournament.
    Sellers, a sophomore, was at heavyweight in the field.
    Devin Jenkins, who wrestled at 132, went 3-1, while Matthew Wallace was 3-1 at the 170-pound class.

  • Warriors fall twice in hoops

    WAXHAW, N.C. – The Indian Land High School Lady Warriors lost two games last week in the Battle of the Border basketball tournament held at Marvin Ridge High School.
    The ILHS girls opened play on Nov. 20, falling 28-16 to Marvin Ridge.
    On Nov. 21, the Lady Warriors fell to Cuthbertson High School, 56-7.
    Lady Warriors first-year head coach Paul Richardson said he was encouraged by his team’s play in the first game.
    “It was a decent game until the end when Marvin Ridge pulled away,” Richardson said.
