  • Surratt Bruins interim football coach

    Lancaster High School is moving forward in filling the void with its vacant head football coach position.
    Marcus Surratt, who has coached in the Bruins football program and served as a high school head coach, is the interim LHS head football coach.
    The job came open earlier this week when Bobby Collins, the Bruins’ head football coach the last five years, was named the head football coach and athletics director at Class AAAA Marlboro County High School in Bennettsville.

  • Lady Jackets take region lead with win over Central

    Buford downed Central of Pageland 3-1 on Wednesday night to take first place in Region IV-AA softball play.
    BHS, 14-3, improved to 10-1 in region play. The Lady Jackets’ win gave BHS first place due to the run margin differential.
    Buford fell to Central in Pageland, 5-4 in their first meeting earlier this season.
    In the two-run win over the Lady Eagles, Yancey Dingler hurled the win, notching five strikeouts. She allowed five hits and two walks.
    Hannah Killough yielded four hits, eight walks and fanned 10.

  • Jackets rally, jolt Eagles at home

    Buford handed seventh-ranked Central High School of Pageland a 13-5 loss in Region IV-AA baseball play Wednesday night at Buford Park.
    The Eagles held an early 5-0 edge, but the Jackets rallied to take the eight-run comeback win, Buford’s second victory over the Eagles this season.
    Buford topped Central, 5-2 on March 14 in Pageland.
    BHS pitcher Landon Deese, in solid relief, worked 5.2 innings and struck out nine. He allowed a walk and four hits.
    Deese boosted his cause with a hit, RBI and scored a run in the win.

  • Vols victorious against Jackets

    The Andrew Jackson Volunteers soccer team swept to a pair of wins over county rival Buford High School on Tuesday night.
    The Vols posted a 4-0 win in the varsity match and the AJ Junior Vols took a 5-0 victory.
    In the varsity match, Jared Truesdale tallied two goals, while Cam Vincent and Stiles Joyce had one goal each.
    Tyler Williams posted the shutout for AJ.
    In the jayvee match, Blake Brice tallied three goals, while Owen Phillips and Brice Harbin had one goal each.
    Carter Nunnery had two assists, while Harbin had one assist.

  • AJ’s Rathel to play soccer at USCL

    KERSHAW – Andrew Jackson High School girls senior soccer player Madison Rathel has her share of high school soccer matches to play, but she’s already looking forward to her college career.
    Rathel, a three-year member of the AJ varsity team, has signed to play college soccer at the University of South Carolina at Lancaster.

  • Page signs to swim at SCAD

    For Lancaster High School star student and swimmer Samuel Page, Monday, April 1 was in his words, “a dream come true.”
    No fooling, all the smiles were genuine.
    Page sported the biggest smile as he signed to swim for the Savannah College for Arts and Design in the LHS conference room.
    SCAD, nicknamed the Bees, competes as a NAIA school in The Sun Conference.

  • Lady Warriors beat Chester booters

    The Indian Land High School girls soccer team evened its record at 7-7 with a 12-0 win over Chester High School.
    The Lady Warriors led 8-0 at the half on the way to the win.
    Samantha Ammann, Bella Sikorski, Julia Jordan and Kiley Waterbury each had two goals.
    Tatiana Ramirez, Mattie-Belle Tripp and Isabel Winert each tallied one goal. ILHS also had an own goal from Chester.
    Natalie Schwartz, Audrey Remien, Kiley Basik, Ammann, Sikorski, Waterbury, Jordan and Ramirez each had an assist.
    Indian Land outshot Chester, 45-1.

  • Warriors rout Chester

    Peyton Darnell paced Indian Land to a 12-2 softball win over Chester High School with two home runs and four RBIs in the 10-run win.
    Daniella Wilson, Lexis Wilkinson, Gabriella Wilson and Darnell each had multiple hits in the win.
    Peyton Hurst hurled the win, tossing a one-hitter. She gave up two runs and struck out five.
    Indian Land blanked Fairfield Central of Winnsboro, 17-0 in three innings.
    Daniella Wilson was 2-2 with two RBIs. Peyton Darnell went 2-2, including a double, with three RBI.

  • Bruins top Blazers in 9-4 victory

    Lancaster captured a 9-4 Region III-AAAA home win over Ridge View High School on Monday night.
    Logan Phillips and Buddy Howard each had three hits to lead the Bruins’ 10-hit attack.
    Phillips and Howard each had two RBIs and Howard tallied a run.
    Raul Garcia-Mora and Ashton Phillips each had a hit and tallied two runs. Phillips also drew a walk.
    Blayne Small had a hit and scored a run. Sergio Vazquez had a hit and drew a walk.
    Zac Blackmon drew two walks, drove in two runs and scored a run.

  • UPDATED: Collins leaving as Lancaster High football coach

    Bobby Collins is leaving Lancaster High School to become the head football coach and athletics director at Marlboro County High School in Bennettsville.
    “I’m excited about it,” Collins said. “This has been a dream of mine to be a head football coach and athletics director.”
    Collins, who has guided the Bruins’ football program for the past five seasons, posted a 30-25 record and led LHS to four playoff berths.
