  • Lady Bruins blank Blazers

    The Lancaster High School Lady Bruins softball team improved to 7-0, 2-0 in Region III-AAAA play, with a 13-0 win over Ridge View on Friday night in their home opener.

    Jordan Pomnitz, Madison Morris and Gracie Revels each had two hits and tallied two runs to lead Lancaster.

    Sydney Cauthen had two hits and scored a run.

    Ashley Abbott, Ana Watts, Alexus Lowery, Kadaja Cunningham, Brittney Robison and Summer Clinton each had a hit and tallied a run.

    Morris was the winning pitcher, posting seven strikeouts and allowing two hits.

  • Bruins sweep track meet

    The Lancaster Bruins track teams captured a five-way meet at the Buford High School track on March 5, with LHS topping the field in the boys and girls meets.

    The Lady Bruins tallied 125 points to win the girls meet, followed by Buford 108, Central 46, Great Falls 24 and McBee 17.

    In the boys meet LHS racked up 132 points, followed by Central 94, McBee 62, Buford 29 and Great Falls 10.

  • Bruins edge Ridge View, 12-11

    Lancaster opened its home schedule, winning a high-scoring game with a 12-11 win over Ridge View on Friday night at Doomsday Corner.

    The Bruins’ hustling Gavin Hanna scored on a passed ball to lift Lancaster to the one-run win.

    LHS bolted to an 8-0 lead in the second inning before the Blazers rallied to tie the game at 11-all and the Bruins rallied for the win.

    Logan Phillips, who worked an inning in relief, was the winner. He struck out three and walked none.

    Phillips aided the winning cause with two hits, a RBI and scored a run.

  • Jackets booters down Demons, 2-0

    The Buford men’s varsity soccer team wrapped up a successful week, taking a 2-0 win over Class AAAA foe Lugoff-Elgin at Jackets Stadium on Friday.

    The match marked the final time the teams played in the young season.

    The Jackets previously defeated the Demons 5-2 in the Capital City Cup in February, but dropped a 3-1 loss at Lugoff-Elgin in the regular season opener.

  • LHS triumphs in tennis

    The Lancaster High School boys tennis team opened defense of its region championship, taking a 5-0 win over Ridge View on Thursday.
    Lancaster swept the singles and no doubles were played since RVHS had only six players.

  • Yellow Jackets blank Cyclones

    The Buford High School boys varsity opened its soccer season, taking a 3-0 win over Class AAA foe Chester on Monday.
    Senior Nate Purser opened the scoring with a goal off a Jesse Black assist.
    The Jackets controlled the first half tempo, but couldn’t finish opportunities to leave the match at 1-0.
    Early in the second half, Purser scored again on an assist from senior left back Zachary Justice.
    In the 65th minute, BHS senior left wing, Juan Gaspar-Luna scored on a ball crossed into the goal area from senior Ben Rhoton.

  • Brown relishes special bond with ‘Coach Mo’

    Buford High School assistant football coach Jeff “Coach Mo” Moyer had an impact on a host of youngsters he taught and coached at BHS over the nine years he was at the eastern Lancaster County high school.
    One who has felt Moyer’s lasting influence was former Buford High football star Marcus Brown.
    Moyer, 65, lost a battle to brain cancer earlier this week. He was diagnosed the weekend of Feb. 9, and died less than a month later.

  • Veterans key in softball hopes for Yellow Jackets

    The Buford Lady Jackets softball team returns a strong cast from the 2017 team, which finished as the Class AA state runner-up last spring.
    BHS, 23-6, returns seven starters on the team, which fell to Latta for the Class AA state title after winning the Class AA state crown in 2016.
    Veteran coach Lael Allen has a solid group of players back for the new season.
    Senior Kristin Wemes, a team veteran, is back at catcher where Hannah Boone will also see playing time.

  • Red Hawks edge Bruins 1-0

    The Lancaster Bruins opened Region III-AAAA, dropping a tough 1-0 loss to Westwood High School at the Red Hawks’ field in Blythewood on Thursday night.
    The game was originally set for Tuesday, but reset due to rain and wet playing conditions.
    Lancaster High pitcher Raul Garcia-Mora, who worked six innings, took the loss.
    He posted seven strikeouts and allowed no earned runs and two walks.
    The Bruins, 3-2 on the season, had four hits on the night – singles from Austin Catoe, Logan Phillips, Buddy Howard and Jarren Taylor.

  • Lady Bruins belt Buford, 21-3

    The Lancaster High School Lady Bruins softball team, fresh off winning the title in the annual Buford Preseason Softball tournament with a 4-0 run, rolled to a 21-3 win over the Buford Lady Jackets on Wednesday night at the BHS softball field.

    Lancaster High senior pitcher Summer Clinton hurled the win, notching two strikeouts in the victory.

    Clinton aided her cause with three hits and drove in a run.

    Ashley Abbott supplied three hits and drove in three runs.
