  • Jackets rip Cavs in homecoming win

    The Buford Yellow Jackets had a solid homecoming performance against the Carolina Christian Cavaliers on Friday night, cruising to a 43-12 non-region win.  The win was the fifth in a row for the Jackets, pushing their mark to 5-3 with only two games left in the regular season.
    The multi-dimensional Jacket offense was led by quarterback Brayden Phillips who threw for three scores in the 31-point win.
     The ground game was just as efficient, Tyheim Miller added two TDs and Toot Curry had one score on the ground for the Jackets.

  • Vols charge late to rout Lions

    KERSHAW – The Andrew Jackson Volunteers wrapped up their final regular-season home game with an impressive 41-6 win over Region IV-AA newcomer Lewisville High School on Friday night.
    The Lions, with the loss, dipped to 0-8 for the season.
    AJ, ending a three-game skid, improved to 5-3, 1-3 in region play.

  • York tops Bruins, 24-10

    YORK – Something about homecomings seem to trigger the York Cougars.
    That is, at least in the 2018 prep football season.
    York, for the fourth straight game, was playing on a homecoming and the result was the same – victory.
    York, which started the season 0-3, rolled to its fourth straight win Friday night – all on a homecoming occasion.
    “Maybe we should try to play on a homecoming each week,” mused York coach Bobby Carroll.

  • Warriors’ fast start fuels 57-0 win

    INDIAN LAND – Everyone needs a break sometimes, and coming off their bye week the Indian Land Warriors looked sharp and rested, scoring 24 points in the first eight minutes, en route to a 57-0 win over the Keenan Raiders.
    Right off the opening kickoff it was clear this was going to be a good night for Indian Land's special teams.

  • Trojans lead Tri-County awards

    FORT MILL – Northwestern High School swept four of the five Class AAAAA football awards at the weekly meeting of the Tri-County Football Coaches Association on Tuesday at the Towne Tavern in Fort Mill.
    The Trojans edged host Clover High School, 31-27 to notch NWHS’s first win this season last Friday.
    The Trojans’ winners included Jamario Holley (offensive player), Greg Johnson (defensive player), Hunter Burbanks (offensive lineman) and John Odom (defensive lineman).

  • Gaines brings big-time record to AJ girls hoops

    KERSHAW – The Andrew Jackson Lady Volunteers lost a coach to the Class AAAAA ranks, but are getting one from a Class AAAAA school.
    Olivia Gaines, a Chester native who formerly coached at Cross and Fort Dorchester high schools in the Palmetto State Lowcountry, is the new Lady Vols basketball coach.
    She replaces Sha’Ron Robertson, who left AJ last spring to become the girls’ basketball coach at Class AAAAA Northwestern High School in Rock Hill.
