  • Vols booters blitz Lions, 14-0

    Andrew Jackson stayed unbeaten in Region IV-AA soccer play with a 14-0 win over Lewisville High School on Wednesday night.
    Jared Truesdale led the Volunteers with five goals and Mason McKittrick tallied four goals. Cam Vincent netted two goals.
    Stiles Joyce, Rhett Bowers and Brice Harbin each had a goal.
    Truesdale and Jake Vaughn each had two assists. Tyler Williams added one.
    Williams, with two saves, also teamed with Nolan Plyler for the shutout.
    In the junior varsity match, the Junior Vols blanked the Junior Lions, 8-0.

  • Lady Jackets, Lady Warriors region champs

    Buford and Indian Land High girls’ soccer teams secured region crowns with shutout wins on Wednesday.
    Buford top Lions
    The Buford High School girls’ soccer team blanked Lewisville High School, 4-0 to claim the Region IV-AA championship with a 6-0 region mark.
    Isabella Jones led all scorers with two goals and two assists.
    Peyton Deese and Chaney Smith each scored one goal in the BHS win.
    Madison Funderburk posted three saves and recorded her eighth shutout of the season.

  • Vols rally, down Eagles

    KERSHAW – Andrew Jackson rallied from an early 3-1 deficit to take a 5-4 Region IV-AA home baseball win over Central High School of Pageland on Wednesday night.
    AJ, 8-3 in region play, rallied to tie the game at 4-all, and then tallied a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to notch the one-run, comeback win.
    Bry Neal drilled a two-out RBI-double to score courtesy runner Dylan Hendrix, who was running for AJ catcher Gavin Phillips.
    Phillips, on the night, drew three walks, and Hendrix, running for him, scored two runs.

  • Priester out as LHS basketball coach

    Lancaster High School will have a new basketball coach for the 2019-20 season.
    Ricardo Priester, who has guided the Bruins boys’ team since the 2005-06 season, has been relieved of his coaching duties with the LHS basketball program.
    Lancaster County School District Superintendent Jonathan Phipps called the issue a personnel matter.
    “We’re just making some changes in the coaching staff,” Phipps said.
    The Lancaster News made several attempts to contact Priester on Thursday, but he was unavailable for comment at press time.

  • Bruins' Tucker wins medalist in Fleischer tourney

    The Lancaster Bruins finished seventh in the 12-team Fleischer Invitational high school golf tournament at the Rock Hill Country Club, with Mason Tucker leading the way as tournament medalist Saturday.
    LHS shot a 499 team total over 27 holes, nine in the opening round Friday and 18 Saturday.
    Teams played only nine holes Friday due to wet playing conditions.
    Tucker carded a 105, with a 37-68, to top the individual field.
    “Mason did well,” LHS golf coach Joe Adams said. “He brought it home and finished well in the tournament.”

  • IL’s Davis to run at Lenoir Rhyne

    INDIAN LAND – Indian Land High School star sprinter Marlin Davis has a knack for making his points in a hurry.
    Davis, the Warriors’ defending Class AAA 200-meter state champion, however, wasn’t right to the point in announcing where he’s headed for his college education and track future.
    Instead, Davis took time to thank God, his coaches and teammates, teachers and school support staff in helping him go to the next level.

  • Warriors capture KLS titles

    Indian Land High School ran away with the titles in the 13th annual KLS Running for Ryan Lancaster County track meet at the Lancaster High School track on Saturday afternoon.
    The Lady Warriors topped the girls field with 116 points on 10 first-place finishes.
    Buford’s girls followed with 52 points, with Andrew Jackson at 39.5 points and host Lancaster with 35.5 points.

  • Vols blanks GCA, 3-0

    The Andrew Jackson Volunteers boys soccer team notched a 3-0 win over Gray Collegiate Academy in prep soccer on Saturday at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill.
    AJ senior Avery Funderburk scored two goals and Jared Truesdale tallied a goal in the AJ win.
    Tyler Williams, in goal, posted 16 saves in an outstanding effort by the AJ Vols team.
    Bruins win
    The Lancaster Bruins posted a 5-3 Region III-AAAA win over Westwood High School on Friday night.
    The Bruins’ win gave LHS sole possession of second place in region play.

  • Warriors cap unbeaten region season for title

    Indian Land High School wrapped up its second straight Region IV-AAA baseball crown with two wins over Keenan High School on Thursday night.
    The Warriors, 8-0 in region play for the second straight season, prevailed over Keenan, 15-0, 13-2.
    In the 15-0 win over the KHS Raiders, Adam Morrison had a hit, four RBIs, a walk and scored a run.
    Chase Dougherty drilled a double, drove in a run, scored twice and had two walks.
    Lawson Otte had a hit, two RBIs and scored twice.
    Brayden Small supplied a hit and two RBIs.

  • Bruins tennis team wins

    Lancaster High School Bruins tennis team downed Westwood High School, 5-1 in LHS’s last region match in regular-season play.
    The Bruins swept the singles in posting the win.
    Isaac Thomas (L) defeated Alex Winslow (W), 6-2, 6-1.
    Brevon McKinney (L) defeated  Khameron Evans (W), 6-0, 6-1.
    Connor Parman (L) defeated Hardik Marlapudi (W), 6-3, 6-0
    Jakob Sapp (L) defeated Breenan Davis (W), 6-0, 6-1.
    Alex Barton (L) defeated Christian Williams (W), 5-7, 6-1 tiebreaker (10-6).
