  • Buford tops Cheraw to win region soccer crown

    The Buford High boys soccer team won the Region IV-AA championship with a 1-0 win over Cheraw at Andrew Jackson High School, a neutral site, on Thursday.

    The match was necessary because Buford and Cheraw, which split in regular-season play, were 3-1 in region play.

    Cheraw entered looking more intense, and putting a great deal of pressure on Buford’s back line and goalkeeper with several open looks, but just couldn’t convert.

  • LHS girls 5th in region meet

    The Lancaster High School girls placed fifth in the Region III-AAAA track meet with 65 points at York, while the LHS boys were sixth with 26 points on Thursday.

    Terricka Thompson and Zayla Stewart each led the Lady Bruins with a second.

    Stewart dashed to a second in the 100 meters, while Thompson was second in the discus.

    The LHS girls 4 x 800 relay was second.

  • County trio seeking district softball titles

    Lancaster, Buford and Andrew Jackson softball teams are seeking district titles today as they play host in hopes of staying unbeaten in postseason play.

    LHS wins

    Lancaster rolled to a 12-0 win over Midland Valley at home to stay unbeaten in the Class AAAA Upper State softball playoffs Friday.

    LHS junior southpaw Summer Clinton hurled the win, tossing a three-hitter and fanning two.

  • Buford soccer closes regular-season with wins

    The Region IV-AA champion Buford High soccer team capped its regular-season with three straight wins.

    BHS defeated rival Andrew Jackson, 4-2 on Jackets senior night April 18.

    The Jackets seniors are Matthew Hunter, Josh Parris, and Austin Gregory.

    BHS center midfielder Jim Small tied the score at 1-1 on an assist from Will Ingram. AJ was awarded a penalty kick for a foul in the box, and converted for a 2-1 lead.

  • Lady Warriors roll in win over Lady Bruins

    The sixth-ranked Indian Land Lady Warriors built a 6-0 halftime lead on the way to a 10-1 win over host Lancaster High School at Memorial Stadium on Wednesday night.

    The Lady Warriors, 13-5-1, had plenty of contributors as Kelsey Long scored three goals in the ILHS girls’ victory.

    Reagan Hunter and Emily Gerdes each had two goals and an assist.

    Shelby Ryberg, Emily Jordan and Summer Bishop each tallied a goal for the Lady Warriors. Bishop added an assist.

  • IL state champs Ross, Milasauskas head IL Warrior wrestling awards

    INDIAN LAND – Brilliant Indian Land Warriors wrestlers took center stage at the Cross Ridge Ministries in Indian Land on April 21 for the annual ILHS wrestling awards.

    Warriors state champions Chad Milasauskas (126) and Austin Ross (106) were honored as the Indian Land High School Wrestlers of the Year.

  • Vols, Jackets rebound in Class AA playoffs

    Andrew Jackson and Buford stayed alive in the Class AA baseball playoffs, posting wins in district elimination games Thursday night.

    AJ, which dropped a 4-1 road loss to Abbeville on Tuesday, rebounded with a 7-3 victory over host Saluda to end the Tigers’ season.

    Buford, which fell to Johnsonville 10-0 on Wednesday, came back to notch a 10-8 win over the Andrews High Yellow Jackets on Thursday at AHS.

  • Lady Bruins open playoffs with win

    The Region III-AAAA softball champion Lancaster High Lady Bruins opened the Class AAAA Upper State playoffs, taking a 6-1 home win over Greer on Thursday.

    The Lady Bruins, 16-0, rode the pitching of junior southpaw Summer Clinton, who in facing 22 batters, allowed no hits, three walks and struck out five GHS batters.

    Clinton aided her cause with a hit, sacrifice fly RBI and scored a run.

  • Jackets claim region golf title

    The Buford Yellow Jackets golf team shot a 339 to win the 18-hole Region IV-AA golf tournament at the Green River Golf Club in Chesterfield on Wednesday.

    The 10-2 Jackets, who went unbeaten in region play, were led by tournament medalist Caleb Henson, who shot a 76.

    The Jackets’ “T” Sutton, an all-region pick with medalist Henson, posted a 79.

    Cannon Cato had an 86 and Chandler King posted a 98 to boost the Jackets’ links effort.

  • Lady Vols win region track crown

    The Andrew Jackson High School girls compiled 111 points, highlighted by three firsts, to win the Region IV-AA girls track title at Buford High School on Tuesday.

    The Lady Vols were followed by host BHS with 95 points.

    Paris Clyburn, who won the discus crown for the third straight season, aided the AJ cause along with Niyana Jones, who won the long jump and placed second in the high jump.
