  • Cato nets region soccer honor

    Lancaster High School senior Jacob Cato heads the 2019 Bruins soccer awards, highlighted by his selection as the co-Region III-AAAA Player of the Year for boys soccer.
    Cato, who recently signed to play soccer at the University of South Carolina Lancaster, and York High School’s Mitchell Lane were named co-recipients of the region’s boys soccer top award.

  • Buford’s Black signs with USCL

    Buford High School soccer standout Jesse Black loves to play the game.
    He’s getting a chance to extend his career on the pitch at the next level.
    Black, a three-year player at Buford High School, is taking his game to the University of South Carolina Lancaster to play for the Lancers.
    USCL has made a play to pad its soccer roster with local players and Black is the latest addition.
    He’s glad for the chance.

  • Landrum wins Class AA state crown

    Landrum High School, ranked No. 1 in the final regular season SC Baseball Coaches Association state poll, proved its top diamond billing a bull’s-eye, winning the 2019 Class AA state baseball championship.
    The Landrum Cardinals, forced to a final game in the double-elimination Class AA Upper State championship series by Andrew Jackson High School, won the state title in two games.

  • ILHS fishing duo finishes strong in PBC field

    Indian Land High School students Christopher Daniels and Calvin Currie fished in the 2018-2019 Palmetto Boat Center High School Classic this past weekend and performed well on Lake Keowee in Pickens County.
    This was the high school state championship and determined the winning team overall for the season.
    Currie, an ILHS senior, and Daniels, a junior, compete with the York County High School Anglers team, which also includes team members from Clover, Fort Mill, Nation Ford and York High School.

  • Jackets’ Henson in All-Star golf matches

    Buford High School senior golfer Caleb Henson is playing among the senior elite prep linksters this weekend.
    Henson is one of two Class AA golfers selected to play in the North-South All-Star golf matches this weekend at the Litchfield Country Club in Litchfield.
    Henson and Colin Trahan of Fox Creek High School are the only Class AA golfers on the North team.

  • Sutton signs to play at Anderson University

    The Buford High School golf team has a solid connection to the Anderson University golf program.
    Last fall, Jackets’ star golfer Caleb Henson joined the AU Trojans’ golf program.
    “T” Sutton, a Jackets juggernaut on the links, is following to give Anderson University a solid pair of golfers from the BHS team.
    Sutton, a six-time all-region golf selection for the Jackets and the 2019 Region IV-AA medalist, has signed to play golf at the NCAA Div. II school in Anderson and South Atlantic Conference member.

  • Lady Warriors honor soccer stars

    Carleigh Werner was honored as the Indian Land High School Lady Warriors Player of the Year at the annual ILHS girls soccer awards night Tuesday.
    Werner and all-region pick Isabel Winert were also honored as Coaches Award recipients.
    Werner, for the 23-game ILHS girls’ season, tallied eight goals and had three assists.

  • Bruins have tough showing in state field

    The Lancaster High School golf team, bidding to defend its state championship, didn’t fare as well in the 2019 Class AAAA state golf tournament at the Barony Course in Hilton Head.
    The Bruins, in what coach Joe Adams called a “disappointing showing,” tailed the 16-team field with a 677.
    Hilton Head High School topped the field with a 607. A.C. Flora of Columbia followed with a 610 and Myrtle Beach had a 613, followed by Eastside of Taylors with a 617.
    Lancaster, for the two-day tournament Monday and Tuesday, carded a 345-332.
