  • Darlings stars win district title

    The Lancaster County Dixie Softball Darlings are headed to the state tournament after capturing the District 2 tournament in Lancaster.
    The Darlings stars, who went 3-1 in the double-elimination district field, wrapped up the crown with a 10-5 win over Jefferson on Monday night at Springdale Park.
    Lancaster opened play with a 13-3 win over Blythewood on Saturday at Springdale Park.
    The LC Darlings followed with a 5-4 win over Jefferson.

  • Allen leads Buford High softball awards

    Buford High School senior shortstop Hunter Allen led the Buford High School Lady Jackets softball awards for the 2019 season.
    Allen, a Class A-AA-AAAAA North-South all-star with teammate and BHS senior second baseman Emily Taylor, was named the BHS softball MVP.
    Allen capped a stellar senior season, hitting .452 with 19 runs batted in this season.
    Buford, which finished 17-7, won the Region IV-AA crown with an 11-1 mark.

  • Pittman, Tinsley tabbed for top 100 camp Sunday

    Two members of the Lancaster High School boys basketball team have been invited to participate in the top 100 Camp at Richland Northeast High School on Sunday.
    The LHS duo includes junior standouts, guard Omazeon “Dude” Tinsley and forward Janyle Pittman.
    The camp is held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    Tinsley and Pittman were named to the All-Region III-AAAA team as selected by the league coaches last season.
    The LHS pair shared the team’s Most Valuable Offensive Player Award for the 2018-19 season.

  • Davis, Fitzgerald lead IL High track honors

    Indian Land High School senior sprinter Marlin Davis and freshman Empress Fitzgerald led the 2019 ILHS Warriors track awards.
    Davis, who has signed to run track at Lenoir Rhyne University in Hickory, N.C., is the ILHS boys MVP.

  • County quartet in all-star games

    Lancaster County will have strong representation for the annual CAWS (Coaches Association of Women’s Sports) North-South All-Star softball games next week.
    The elite tournament, featuring all-star teams from the North and South in all classes of S.C. high school softball play, is Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at USC Aiken.

  • Hayden Jackets hoops MVP

    Justin Hayden, an all-region pick for the Buford Yellow Jackets basketball team, is the BHS boys basketball MVP.
    Hayden, a senior forward, averaged nine points and 3.8 rebounds during the Jackets season. He has signed to play football at Newberry College.
    Junior forward Jo Barrino, also an all-region pick, was named the team’s Best Defensive Award winner.
    Barrino, regarded as an ace shot blocker, netted 7.6 points and 5.1 rebounds a game for the Jackets.

  • Sistare honored as BHS MVP

    Versatile performer Brett Sistare, who played multiple positions for the Buford High School baseball team, led the Jackets baseball awards for the 2019 season.
    Sistare, who played pitcher, catcher and in the BHS infield, earned the Jackets baseball MVP.
    Sistare, an all-region pick, hit .403 with a .584 on-base percentage.
    He had 19 runs batted in with 13 walks, six stolen bases and scored 15 runs.
    Dylan Montgomery earned the team’s All-Heart Award.
