  • Lady Lancers’ season ends in region tourney
    The University of South Carolina Lady Lancers saw their softball season end with a pair of losses in the Region X tournament at USC Aiken. USC Salkehatchie defeated USCL 7-5 on Saturday, April 27. Callie Wayne, who worked five innings, took the loss, allowing three hits, six runs, four earned runs and seven walks. She fanned six. Kayla Lloyd worked two innings and gave up two hits, one run, one earned run and a walk. She struck out one.
  • Faile named to Capital One Academic All-District squad
    FLORENCE – Tristan Faile, a senior third baseman on the Francis Marion University women’s softball team, has been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District III Team for NCAA Division II.  This is the second consecutive year the Lancaster, S.C., native has earned this honor. Faile has compiled a 3.86 grade point average as a biology major.  A first-team selection, she now becomes eligible to earn Academic All-American honors, with voting to be done in the near future.
  • Team nets 2-shot win in Rucker tourney
          It wasn’t the greatest day for golf, but players in the annual A.R. Rucker Relay for Life golf tournament made the most of the day on Saturday, April 27.
  • Teamwork's crucial in Partner's for Youth win
    Teamwork was the key for the winning foursome in the 22nd annual Crenshaw Oil Company Partners for Youth golf tournament Friday, April 26 at the Lancaster Golf Club. The winning team of Roy Watkins, Bob Norwood, Bond Isacson and Jeff Tirpack combined for a 50.625 – 57 gross – to top a 136-player field.
  • Lancers drop three of four to Bulldogs
    The USC Lancaster Lancers dropped a 1-0 baseball loss to Pitt Community College on Sunday, April 19 in the nightcap of a Region X twin bill in Winterville, N.C. The loss capped a four- game series with the Bulldogs, who took three of four games from the Lancers.
  • Rucker honors sports standouts
    A.R. Rucker Middle School celebrated a banner athletic year with the annual Rams’ athletic awards on Wednesday, April 24. The Lancaster middle school honored student-athletes in five sports during the event in the Rucker cafeteria.
  • Emotional tourney win
    A beautiful, clear spring day greeted 92 golfers on Saturday, April 20 as they played in the 12th annual Matt Blackwell Foundation golf tournament at the Lancaster Golf Club.
  • Crawford slapped with two-year drug ban
    Former Indian Land High School track star Shawn Crawford, who captured gold in the 200m at the 2004 Athens Olympics, has been suspended for two years for not providing his whereabouts for out-of-competition drug testing. Crawford, according to reports, didn’t tell officials of his whereabouts for out-of-competition drugs tests three times in an 18-month period. The Van Wyck native was suspended from competition and stripped of all results dating back to Nov. 17, 2012. Crawford’s ban began Wednesday, April 17.
  • Lancers take one win in series with Stingers
    The University of South Carolina Lancaster Lancers capped a four-game series (two twin bills) with an 11-7 win over the Florence-Darlington Tech Stingers in the opener on Sunday, April 14. In the four-run win, the Lancers lashed 15 hits.
  • Crenshaw Oil Golf Tournament rescheduled
    The 22nd annual Crenshaw Oil Golf Tournament, scheduled for Friday, April 19 at the Lancaster Golf Club, has been moved to Friday, April 26. The tournament was reset due to the forecast for rain on Friday, April 19.
