  • Rock Hill downs P-31 in opener
    Rock Hill Post 34 broke to an early lead and stayed on top to take a 6-2 win over Lancaster Post 31 in American Legion baseball League III play on Wednesday night. The game at P-31’s Harvey Eggleton Field was the opener for both teams to launch the 2019 American Legion baseball season.
  • Silver Foxes earn state senior tennis gold
    Four Lancaster County senior men’s tennis players can stake a solid claim in a recent state championship. The Silver Foxes, a 65-over men’s doubles team comprised of Lancaster and Rock Hill senior tennis members, captured the seniors state crown in Hilton Head on Nov. 2-4. The nine-player Silver Foxes team won the Mid-Carolina Tennis League to qualify for the state tournament.

    NORTH AUGUSTA – Lancaster County’s Dixie Boys 14U All-Stars won the state title Wednesday, defeating Aynor 8-1 in the championship game. The team dominated the tournament, never losing a game in the double-elimination format and racking up lopsided victories in all six games. “The blisters are worth it,” said Landon Deese, who pitched a complete game Wednesday. “It’s a great feeling…. The talent, the coaches. Everybody plays together, not for themselves.” 
  • P-31 home opener rained out, Wallace honored
    Rain prevailed in the Lancaster Post 31 American Legion baseball opener Thursday night at Eggleton Field. Union Post 22, which took a 10-2 win over Lancaster Post 31 on Monday night at the Timken Sports Complex in Union, built a 3-1 lead going to the top of the fifth inning. Then, as P-31 athletic officer Scott Cato noted, “the bottom fell out.” “It rained hard and the field was flooded,” he said.

  • USCL sets youth swimming lessons
        Youth swimming lessons at the Gregory Health and Wellness Center pool at USC Lancaster will be held Oct. 16-Nov.9. Classes meet Monday and Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 6:30, and 6:30 p.m. to 7. The Tuesday-Thursday classes are 6 p.m. to 6:30 and 6:30 p.m. to 7. Classes offered are aqua-tot, level 1, level 2 and level 3. Classes meet twice a week for four weeks.
  • Dominating Darlings!
    The Lancaster County Darlings all-stars are dominating on the diamond this week. The team continued their stellar play Monday night with a 10-6 win over Jena, La., in the Dixie Softball World Series at Sumter’s Patriot Park. The win left Lancaster’s 8U all-stars as the only unbeaten team in the double-elimination, 11-team field. Today could be World Series Championship day for Lancaster, as the tournament’s teams play their last games.

    The Lancaster County Darlings stars, age 8U, are off to a dandy start in the Dixie Softball World Series at Patriot Park in Sumter. The Lancaster County Darlings stars, the 2017 S.C. state champion, opened the double-elimination tournament with three straight wins, including a 13-11 victory over Montgomery, Ala., on Sunday night. The Darlings, 14-0 in postseason play, bolted to a 9-3 lead on the Alabama state champion, but the Bama team rallied to take a 10-9 edge. Lancaster County rebounded to with four runs in the fourth inning to take a 13-10 lead.

    The Lancaster County Dixie Softball Darlings all-stars launched play in the World Series, rolling to an 11-0 win over Texas in the team's opener on Saturday. The Lancaster County Darlings stars, who are unbeaten in postseason play at 12-0, face the Georgia state champion today in Sumter. The Lancaster County Darlings stars of coach Gene Knight earned a World Series bid, winning the state championship in Dillon earlier this month.
