  • Open letter to Councilman Larry Honeycutt

Mr. Honeycutt, as an elected official of Lancaster County, you are considered a politician.
The definition of a politician, according to Webster’s Dictionary, is a person actively engaged in party politics, frequently used in a derogatory sense, with implications of seeking personal or partisan gain, scheming and opportunism.

  • Four teams blazed to diamond success

The summer of 2012 has been one to remember for shining efforts on the diamond.
That’s the glowing performances of four area teams – three banner baseball teams and a stellar softball squad.
Those teams include the Lancaster Post 31 American Legion team, the Lancaster Dixie Pre-Majors all-stars, the Lancaster Dixie Boys 13 all-stars and the Lancaster County Dixie Softball Darlings all-stars.
Each did well and produced their share of achievements.

  • S.C.’s lost decade due to our poor leadership

Ten years is a long time, especially in the digital age. A preschool child can grow into a strapping teenager; a tech company can go from start up to a global power; and a new idea can take root and begin to change a culture.
In 10 years, a state can build a strong reputation as dynamic and progressive – or it can stagnate and even slide to the point of becoming an object of national ridicule.
Unfortunately, the latter is what has happened to South Carolina.

  • We are a country in a crisis

One day while in prayer, I thought of the woes of our country, our world and how no one seems to want to take responsibility for their actions. I said, “Lord, what’s going to happen? What can we do?”
Immediately these scriptures flooded my mind:
    1. Righteousness exalted a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people. Proverbs 14:34.

  • Obama does not know a thing about business

I have listened and watched this debate over President Barack Obama’s “You didn’t build that” comment.
And after watching and listening to the debate over reported and under reported, its President Obama’s own commercial that finally made me have enough. Some of you will disagree, but that is fine. But for this president to lecture anyone is ridiculous.

  • Don’t take Obama speech out of context

I would like to respond to Sen. W. Greg Ryberg’s letter, “Obama should stop insulting entrepreneurs,” published in the Aug. 1 edition of The Lancaster News.

  • Societies’ ills within people, not objects

Given recent, tragic events, we think it is time to take a look at some statistics. If these numbers don’t grab your attention, nothing will.
More than 42,000 Americans were killed in 2006, more than 41,000 in 2007, 37,000 in 2008 and about 33,000 in 2009 and 2010. That totals out to more than 185,000 lost lives in a five-year period. That is enough national deaths to wipe out the entire population of Chester County six times over. It’s understandable that people are outraged and want the government to take action, regardless of whatever rights people possess.

  • The real story is Haley letting her daughter hold a state job

Reporting that originated with The State regarding Gov. Nikki Haley’s 14-year-old daughter working in a state-paid summer job at the Statehouse did not appear in the Columbia newspaper’s print or online editions on July 25. But did appear on the websites of The Herald in Rock Hill and The Charlotte Observer. The McClatchy Co. owns the three newspapers.
