  • AJ Vols unbeaten, unscored on with 34-0 win over Red Devils

    GREAT FALLS – The 10th-ranked Andrew Jackson Volunteers pushed their win streak to 4-0 and unscored run to four games with a 34-0 road win over Great Falls on Friday night in the Red Devils’ Pride Valley.
    The Vols had bolted to their 3-0 start thanks, in part, to outstanding play on defense and special teams. The opening kickoff showed more of that when the Vols recovered a Red Devils’ fumble and began their first drive inside the GFHS 25.

  • Bruins edge Falcons in 21-20 win

    Lancaster High junior quarterback Sean Truesdale said the Bruins were tired of losing, so they perked up and did something about the skid.
    The Bruins, facing 80 yards late in the game, found a way, driving the distance to deliver a 21-20 win over Class AAAAA Nation Ford High School of Fort Mill on Friday night at Memorial Stadium.
    “We had the will to win,” said Truesdale, who engineered the decisive drive in seven plays.

  • Speedway hosts Shrine Race on Saturday

    Lancaster Motor Speedway will host one of its biggest nights of the dirt track racing season Saturday.
    The annual Jackson Shrine Race will take center stage at the half-mile dirt oval.
    The Shrine Race, with proceeds to benefit Shrine Hospitals, ranks as one of the races Speedway drivers, fans and staff members circle on their racing calendars each season.
    The action-packed night will be headlined by the Fuel Racing Series, paying $2,000 to win.

  • Lady Vols sweep York Prep

    The Andrew Jackson Lady Volunteers volleyball team rebounded from a tough, five-set road loss to county rival Buford High School last week to post a pair of solid wins this week.
    AJ, in region play, blanked host Chesterfield High School, 3-0 in a sweep of the Lady Rams on Tuesday afternoon.
    AJ downed York Prep, 3-0 at home on Thursday to go 2-0 on the week.
    The Lady Vols will visit Region IV-AA foe Lewisville High School on Tuesday for a junior varsity/varsity match.

  • Middle school, jayvee football roundup: Buford Middle edges Rucker

    Buford Middle School built an 8-6 halftime lead and held on to defeat A.R. Rucker Middle School on Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
    The Jackets’ score came on a Mason Deese 60-yard run on a quarterback keeper. Deese also tallied on the two-point conversion for BMS.
    Rucker’s touchdown came as Jermaine Flowers picked up a blocked punt by Isaac Blackmon-Wilson and dashed 20 yards for the score.
    Buford Middle School coach Greg Caskey saluted running backlinebacker Tanner Sellers for a stellar effort.

  • Vols No. 10 in AA state poll

    Andrew Jackson High School, undefeated with three shutout wins to open the prep football season, is ranked No. 10 in the latest Class AA state media poll.
    The Volunteers were No. 9 last week when two teams were tied for sixth in the top 10.
    AJ has been ranked three straight weeks since opening the season with a 37-0 road win over Class A McBee High School. McBee, ranked No. 10 in the Class A preseason poll, garnered votes in the Class A poll again this week.
