    The saga continues regarding the location of Lancaster Summer Fest, a highly anticipated concert set for next weekend.
    The Saturday, June 9, event, featuring rappers Slick Rick and Chubb Rock, was initially planned for Memorial Stadium.
    After an issue with the contract, it was announced that the event was moved to the Lancaster County Fairgrounds.

  • S.C. Firefighters Hall of Fame to induct Blackwelder, Cauthen

    Two Lancaster County fire chiefs will be inducted into the S.C. Firefighters Hall of Fame next week.
    Retired Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Department Chief Paul Blackwelder and late Elgin Volunteer Fire Department Chief Dennis Cauthen will be inducted during the S.C. Firefighters Association Conference in Myrtle Beach June 4 through June 9 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
    The men’s names will join those of 188 other hall of fame inductees from across the state.

  • Shrader faces multiple charges

    An investigation into missing UPS packages led local authorities to arrest a Lancaster man for a string of  burglaries throughout the county.
    The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office has charged Timothy Eric Shrader, 29, 2293 Kershaw Camden Highway, with second-degree burglary, three counts of breaking and entering an automobile and one count of receiving stolen goods, according to a sheriff’s office incident report.

  • Deputies charge couple with strong-arm robbery

    A Heath Springs couple is behind bars after they were arrested for assaulting and robbing a man late last month.
    Carl Thomas Ferrill, 28, and Kayla Ann Mangum, 26, both of 1870 Baysprings Road, Heath Springs, were arrested May 27 and each charged with strong-arm robbery, according to a Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office incident report.
    The charges are related to an assault that sent a 47-year-old man to the hospital because of multiple head and neck injuries.  

  • Man threatens elderly couple

    No arrests have been made in the case of an elderly couple threatened outside a Lancaster home by a man who had a butcher knife in his pocket.
    Officers were called to a home in the 100 block of South Hughes Street  about 2 p.m. May 20, after reports of a disorderly person, according to a Lancaster Police Department incident report.

  • Man charged with marijuana possession, assault on officer

    A speeding violation led to the arrest of a Lancaster man on drug and assault charges recently.
    A warrant is being completed for the arrest of Christopher Columbus Avontae Mingo III, 20, 2201 Pardue St. Apartments, after a Lancaster County sheriff’s deputy stopped his car at the intersection of Old Landsford Road and Springdale Road.
    Mingo was charged with traffic violation, possession of marijuana and assault on a police officer, according to a sheriff’s office incident report.
