  • Man arrested for attacking woman, jumping on car

    A Lancaster man was arrested last week for the assault of a 17-year-old woman during which he reportedly jumped on her car. 

    Ahmad Rashad Craig, 21, 109 S. Gregory St., was arrested Aug. 26 and charged with third-degree assault and battery and malicious injury to property less than $2,000 after police say he attacked a Lancaster woman and then damaged her car on Aug. 14. 

    Police spoke with the victim in the lobby of the police department only minutes after the attack, according to a police department incident report.

  • LHS golfers win opener with NFHS

    The Lancaster High School golf team captured its opener, downing Nation Ford of Fort Mill, 190-219.

    Alexandria McCain led the LHS girls with a 41 and Emily Cox followed with a 46. Carley Snyder shot a 51 and Carly Funderburk finished with a 52. Other LHS scores: Rachael Hovis, 55, and Ina Roberts with a 63.

    Surveillance footage shows several men stealing several weapons from a Van Wyck gun store early Sunday morning.
    The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office released photos Thursday from a surveillance video that captured a burglary Aug. 28 inside Discount Guns, located at 5219 Old Hickory Road, Van Wyck.

  • Proposal a win-win situation for county

    Local governments are considering an option to contract with Tax Management Associates to recoup tax dollars owed by residents who are improperly claiming tax credits and exemptions on property taxes.
    The city of Lancaster, town of Kershaw and Lancaster County Council recently heard a presentation about the program.
    Tax Management Associates conducts tax audits to catch residents improperly paying 4 percent taxes on homes listed as a primary residence; residents improperly claiming a homestead exemption; and businesses not paying their taxes properly.

    As Americans, we’re blessed to live in the greatest nation in the world. But all too often we tend to take for granted the heroes among us who fought and sacrificed to protect us, our ideals, and our freedom.
    Col. Charles P. Murray Jr. was one such hero. In fact, he showed us the true meaning of the word “hero.”
    We lost a great South Carolinian on Aug. 12, when Col. Murray passed away. I was fortunate to have known Chuck as a friend for many years.
