  • Kershaw woman abducted, killed

     The woman who was abducted and murdered across two bordering counties Monday was from Lancaster County.
    Authorities say town of Kershaw resident Beverly Hope Melton, 30, was getting gas at a Jefferson convenience store about 1 p.m. Monday.
    Video surveillance footage from the store showed that Melton was followed from the store by Nickolas Jermaine Miller, 23, who lives in Jefferson, said Chesterfield County Sheriff Sam Parker.

     HEATH SPRINGS – Rico Industries’ environmental impact on the town of Heath Springs is now a concern.
    Town Council was briefed Dec. 20 about recent tests that have been conducted on the town’s wastewater. In recent weeks, higher amounts of dead bacteria and contaminants have been found in the wastewater, said Joey Oliver of Oliver Environmental Services.
    Oliver contracts with Heath Springs to manage its wastewater system.

    KERSHAW – Buford built the early lead and held on to earn a bid to the title game in the opening game of the Comporium Christmas Classic at Andrew Jackson High School on Tuesday afternoon.

    The Lady Jackets took a 35-33 win over the Lady Rams to advance to the title game tonight at 6 in the AJ gym.

  • Troopers working fatal Indian Land accident

    The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal automobile accident in Indian Land where a vehicle fell between two bridges on U.S. 521.
    While official information about the accident is still sparse, the emergency services call went out about 11:27 Tuesday morning describing an overturned vehicle near the intersection of U.S. 521 (Charlotte Highway) and S.C. 75 (Waxhaw Road).

  • Lancaster woman abducted from a convenience store, assaulted and killed

    The woman who was abducted and murdered across two bordering counties Monday was from Lancaster County.
    Authorities say Beverly Hope Melton, 30, of Kershaw was at a Jefferson convenience store about noon Monday when she was harassed by a man there.
    She was later sexually assaulted and driven from Chesterfield County to Kershaw County, where she was again assaulted and then killed, according to information released during a Tuesday press conference.
