  • Locals attending DNC in Charlotte

    Erica Simpson said if necessary, she probably would have paid for a ticket to Thursday’s Democratic National Convention event at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

    That’s where President Barack Obama will officially accept his party’s presidential nomination during a speech to culminate a week in which tens of thousands of people from around the country – and abroad – have descended on Charlotte.

    And Simpson has been right there in the mix.

  • Police arrest four after finding drugs inside Pardue Street home

    Four people were arrested on drug charges last week after Lancaster police searched a Pardue Street home that contained marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

    Mandrell Javon Brown, 30, 701 Coldstream Road, Heath Springs, has been charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of a firearm.

  • Once in a blue moon

    Tim Deaton caught this photograph of the blue moon from the front yard of his Kershaw home between 10:30 and 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31. The term “blue moon” doesn’t refer to the color, but to the rarity of the occurrence. Blue moons are defined as the fourth full moon of the year or the second full moon of the month. The latter definition covers Friday’s event, since the first full moon of the month was Aug. 1. Blue moons happen every 2.7 years and the next one is set to occur July 31, 2015.

    The LHS girls tennis team opened its season with a strong 6-0 win against South Pointe Thursday, Aug. 30th in Rock Hill.

    The win was capitalized by 6-0, 6-0 wins from the team’s No. 1 and No. 2 singles players, Lyndsey Hegler and Sara Hicks.
