    The wedding is planned for 2 p.m. Sept. 28, 2013, at Philadelphia United Methodist Church in Fort Mill.
    Miss Patterson is a graduate of Fort Mill High School and received an associate’s degree in dental hygiene from York Technical College.
    She works as a dental hygienist at Shiland Dentistry in Rock Hill.
    Mr. Pressley is the son of Mike and Vivian Pressley of Indian Land.

    Donald and Donna McCowan of Lancaster announce the engagement of their daughter, Casey Bree McCowan, to Nickolas Hutchinson Pardue, both of Heath Springs.

    Rabies clinic

    Faulkner Animal Hospital will host a rabies clinic at several locations from 6 to 8 p.m. The clinic will offer rabies shots ($5), distemper/parvo shot ($16), bordetella or kennel cough ($16) each for dogs, and four-way feline distemper ($16), FIV-feline ($16) and FELV-feline ($16) each for cats.   • Florence County man dies in wreck

    A 27-year-old Florence County man died early Saturday morning in a single- vehicle accident on Golf Course Road, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol. 

    The man, whose name was not released, was driving north about 2 a.m. in his 2005 Jeep Cherokee when he veered off the left side of the road, overcorrected and drove off the right side of the road, where the vehicle flipped and hit a tree, according to the highway patrol.

  • Longtime girls coach leaving ILHS

    Tamara Jacobus, who molded Indian Land High School’s volleyball and girls basketball teams into state powers, is leaving the Lancaster County Class AA school.
    Jacobus, a McBee native, is moving to Class AAAA Clover High School, where she will coach the Lady Blue Eagles’ volleyball team and teach math in the school’s freshman academy. Her assistant coach will be former Indian Land volleyball and basketball star Jean Marie Harris.
    Jacobus said the move came after making “one of the toughest decisions” in her life.

  • Tips for the perfect summer lawn

    The extreme heat and drought last year was hard on lawns and gardens. 

    “Many gardeners are facing a blank slate of bare soil, masses of dead patches that were once lawn or a bit of grass interspersed in a sea of weeds,” gardening expert Melinda Myers said.
    Myers recommends following a few simple steps to improve lawns this season:
