  • Man sought in Waffle House shooting

    Police are searching for a Lancaster man wanted in connection with the shooting of a man outside Waffle House early Sunday morning, Sept. 16.
    Arrest warrants have been issued for Andrual Rashan Ross, 18, 1942 Usher Road, on charges of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to a Lancaster Police Department press release.
    Officers had still not found Ross late Monday afternoon.

  • New law compromises health care for everyone

    For the past 20 years, I have worked in the health-care field in one capacity or another, including the insurance side, the managed care side, the provider side and now the financial side. I have an inside idea how the new law will impact physicians, hospitals and patients.
    The law will require states to basically accept everyone under the Medicaid program. On the surface, I think we can all agree that sounds great – everyone is covered and no one is without insurance.

  • Just a pinch: Asparagus Quiche

    1- 8 ounce tube of refrigerated crescent rolls
    2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
    1 and 1/2 pound fresh asparagus, trimmed and cut into half-inch pieces
    1 medium onion, chopped
    Fresh sliced  mushrooms, 8 ounces
    1/4 cup cubed butter
    2 eggs lightly beaten
    2 cups shredded cheese such as mozzarella
    1/4 cup fresh parsley, minced
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
    1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
    1/4 teaspoon each of basil, oregano and rubbed sage

    Melanie Helm is a Lancaster native who graduated from Anderson College in May. She was hired by the Lancaster County School District to teach fourth grade at North Elementary School.

    Helm says it was an experience in a country thousands of miles away that inspired her to be a teacher.

    Lancaster launches its second season with a visit from a Class AAAA elite Friday night, while the rest of the county teams cap non-league play.

  • LHS swimmers stay unbeaten with pool sweep at Rock Hill

    The Lancaster Bruins swim team improved to 6-0 with a region sweep of South Pointe and Nation Ford at the Rock Hill Aquatics Center on Sept. 13.

    The 6-0 Bruins were led by Jory Pettit who had two firsts. Luke Sowell, Hannah Jacobs, Jonah Faile, Lauren Spencer each had a win.

    Action Saturday night at Lancaster Motor Speedway featured some of the best racing of the 2012 season. The Super Street, Crate Sportsman and Pure Street all came down to the last lap.

    The Super Street main was the best race of the night.
