  • Busy week for guilty pleas

    The 6th Circuit Solicitor’s Office had a busy week recently with several criminal suspects entering guilty pleas at the Lancaster County Courthouse.
    Among them are Aaron Jami Donaldson, 20, and Matreal Terone Truesdale, 27.

    Donaldson, who has a Rock Hill address, was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to armed robbery. He was arrested after a robbery incident Oct. 18, 2012, at Williams Financial Services in Kershaw.

  • Daly will speak to grads

    There’s going to be a whole lot of celebrating going on at the University of South Carolina Lancaster next weekend during Commencement 2013.
    This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, May 4 at 2:30 p.m. in the James A. Bradley Arts and Sciences Building’s Bundy Auditorium.
    School officials said 96 students will walk the stage during this year’s graduation ceremony including students who earned degrees during the summer 2012, fall 2012 and spring 2013 semesters.

  • Tough Medic: Demby awarded Paramedic of the Year in S.C.

    Whether he’s responding to a heart attack, or running an obstacle course covered in mud, David Demby is calm under pressure.
    That calmness shines through as Demby, 37, discusses his typical routine, sometimes logging hours as an Army Reservist, other times saving lives as an Emergency Medical Services paramedic. He has also dedicated thousands of hours as a field training officer with Lancaster County’s EMS and admits there’s not a lot of downtime in his life.

  • Teamwork's crucial in Partner's for Youth win

    Teamwork was the key for the winning foursome in the 22nd annual Crenshaw Oil Company Partners for Youth golf tournament Friday, April 26 at the Lancaster Golf Club.

    The winning team of Roy Watkins, Bob Norwood, Bond Isacson and Jeff Tirpack combined for a 50.625 – 57 gross – to top a 136-player field.

  • Lady Jackets win, unbeaten in district play



    The Buford High softball team, which had dropped seven straight losses to county and Region IV-AA foe Andrew Jackson, picked the right time to turn the tables on the host Lady Volunteers.

    The road to the Class AA District III baseball championship will run through the Andrew Jackson High School baseball field.

  • Henwood-Harris Wedding

    Lisa Henwood of Concord, N.C., and Derik Harris of Charlotte were married Feb. 23, 2013, at The Park Church in Charlotte by the Rev. Dr. Major McGuire.
    The bride is the daughter of Gordon Henwood Sr. of New Jersey and Lystra Funderburk of Charlotte. She is a graduate of North Brunswick High School in New Jersey and attended North Carolina Central University in Durham, N.C. She is a salon co-owner and stylist.

    Stephanie Lauren Sinclair and Michael Kevin Griffin were married Oct. 13, 2012, at the Baker Conference Center in Kershaw,
    The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Moss and Larry Sinclair, all of Lancaster. She is the granddaughter of Austine Moss of Henderson, N.C., and the late Harvey Moss, the late Mr. and Mrs. Odell Player and the late Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Sinclair. She is a 2000 graduate of Lancaster High School and works for Barnett-Honeycutt Pharmacy in Lancaster as a pharmacy technician.

  • Porter-Ford Wedding

    Victoria Lynn Porter and William Glenn Ford, both of Surfside Beach, were married March 23, 2013, at The Coker Ranch by the Rev. Jim Elder.
    The bride is the daughter of Jack Blankenship of Ohio and Marcia Rogers of Waxhaw, N.C. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rogers of Charleston and Mr. and Mrs. Merrell Blankenship of Ohio. She is a 2012 graduate of Midlands Technical College with an associate’s degree in public service (paralegal) and health science. She is the bookkeeper/legal assistant for the Neill Law Firm.

  • Faulkenberrys celebrate 75 years

    Jones Allen and Evelyn Bailey Faulkenberry celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on April 7, 2013.
    A reception in their honor was given by their children at the home of Haskell and Sandi Faulkenberry.
    The Faulkenberrys were married April 2, 1938, in Camden.
