  • Gaming machines found in stores

    The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, along with State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) Gaming Task Force agents, seized 22 illegal gaming devices, as well as computer servers, monitors, computer equipment and components from an Internet cafe (sweepstakes) operation that were being stored in an closed-down convenience store on Friday, June 28.

    “I haven’t seen this many poker machines at one time in one place since they were running wide open,” said Lancaster County Sheriff Barry Faile.

  • County minors stars fall in district tourney

    The Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Commission Little League Baseball all-stars were eliminated in two games in the district tournament at Springdale Park.

    The Lancaster County stars, led by manager Dale Jenkins, fell to Fairfield County, 16-10 in the District 8 minor league tournament opener on Thursday, June 27.

    he Lancaster Makos swim team defeated the Chester Waves, 311-179 on Tuesday, June 25.

    The Makos were led by Emmie Grace Johnson, Wesley Montgomery, Taylor Teague, Reece Walker and Nathan Reid who had three wins each.

    The Lancaster Post 31 senior team dropped a 4-1 loss to Florence Post 1 in the Palmetto Legion Invitational in Florence on Friday, June 28.

    Kam Dixon of Florence hurled a complete-game five-hitter in taking the win.

  • Byrdic-Knight Wedding

    Brandy Leigh-Ann Byrdic and Jason Thomas Knight were married Oct. 20, 2012, at Edward-Scott House.
    The bride is the daughter of Jan and Mike Sager and Kenny Byrdic, all of Lancaster. She is the granddaughter of Mary Sue Byrdic and the late Bobby Lee Byrdic and of Brenda and Junior Hartley, all of Lancaster.
    She is a 2002 graduate of Lancaster High School and received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of South Carolina in 2010. She is a registered nurse in the pediatric unit at Piedmont Medical Center.

    Bill Theologus of Maryland and Cindy Clements of Greensboro, N.C., announce the engagement of their daughter, Stacey Theologus, to Christopher David “Kritter” Sims, both of Pineville.
    The wedding is planned for 4 p.m. July 13, 2013 at Red Diamond Event Center in Pineville.
    Miss Theologus is a student at Central Piedmont Community College.
    Mr. Sims is the son of Karen Sims of Kershaw and Fred “Pete” Sims of Matthews, N.C. He is a diesel technician at Kenan Transport.

    Miss Garris is the granddaughter of Mary and Jerry Garris of Lancaster, Margie Faile of Heath Springs and the late Rex Faile. She is a 2012 graduate of Lancaster High School and is studying business management at Clemson University. She works in sales at Garris Jewelers.
