  • Bruins claw FM Jackets

    Lancaster High senior pitcher Jordan Brock hurled a no-hitter to spark the host Bruins to a 6-0 Region III-AAAA win over Fort Mill at Doomsday Corner on Friday, March 15.

    Brock, who was mobbed by his LHS teammates after posting the gem, notched 11 strikeouts and no walks. He did hit two batters.

  • Chappell-Moseley Wedding

    Christan Leigh Chappell and James Darrelle Moseley II were married Nov. 17, 2012, at Andrew Jackson State Park by Cathy Balcome.
    The bride is the daughter of Leigh and Rayford Chappell, both of Lancaster. She is a 2011 graduate of Lancaster High School and is a licensed cosmetologist at The Hairport Salon in Lancaster.
    The groom is the son of Cathy Tarlton and James Moseley, both of Lancaster. He attended Lancaster High School and works for Asplund Tree Company.
    Maid of honor was Stephanie Dixon of Lancaster.

  • Hensley-Price Engagement

    Barry and Shelia Hensley announce the engagement of their daughter, April Hensley, all of Lancaster, to Dennis Price II of Vale, N.C.
    The wedding is planned for 2 p.m. Sept. 13, 2014, at Center Grove Free Will Baptist Church in Waxhaw.
    Miss Hensley is a 2011 graduate of Indian Land High School and works for Krispy Kreme.
    Mr. Price is the son of Shawn and Amanda Price of Lawndale, N.C. He is the grandson of Ray and Shelia Johnson of Vale. He is a 2011 graduate of Burns High School and is a volunteer firefighter.

    Ralph Edwin Couch of Heath Springs and Mika Herring Couch of Lancaster, announce the engagement of their daughter, Lindsay Shea Couch of Lancaster, to Dallas Grayson Glover of Charlotte.
    A June wedding is planned at Second Baptist Church in Lancaster.
    Miss Couch is the granddaughter of Daisy Sims Couch of Heath Springs and the late Ralph Elliott Couch and Valda Byrd Herring of Lancaster and the late Maxie Donald Herring.

    Miss Foster is the granddaughter of the late Floyd Foster, the late Grace Railey Mackey and the late Rev. and Mrs. Jim White. She is the mother of Hannah and Timothy Varnadore. She is a 1990 graduate of Lancaster High School.

  • Half-staff flags honor Inez Baker

    Flags across the state will be flown at half-staff on Monday, March 18, 2013, in honor of Inez Baker. Baker, a Cayce resident and 26-year Army veteran, was killed in an attack on a U.S. base in eastern Afghanistan on March 8.

    News of a Mississippi newborn supposedly cured of an HIV infection has HIV advocates and researchers in South Carolina hopeful as well as skeptical.

    The potential for the cure to change the standard of care for those infected would be especially welcome here in the South, where the highest death rate due to HIV occurs.
