    Wayne and Mildred Stogner celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Dec. 18, 2012.
    The couple was married Dec. 18, 1952.
    The Stogners have two children, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

  • Hudsons celebrate 60 years

    Rev. Jack and Shirley Taylor Hudson celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Dec. 24, 2012.
    A luncheon was given in their honor by their family at their daughter’s house.
    They were married Dec. 24, 1952, in Lancaster.
    The Hudsons have two children, Jackie Hudson and his wife Darlene and Becky Padgett and her husband Marvin, two grandchildren and two great-granchildren.
    Jack is a retired Baptist preacher and Shirley is a housewife.

  • Jenkins-Driggers Engagement

    Tommy and Beth Jenkins announce the engagement of their daughter, Kayla Hope Jenkins, to Jarvis Lee Driggers, all of Lancaster.
    The wedding is planned for 3:00 p.m. April 24, 2013, at Second Baptist Church.
    Miss Jenkins is the granddaughter of Tommy and Vicki Jenkins, Ronnie and Brenda Jackson, Richard Hinson, and Dora and Ronald Hensley. She is a 2006 high school graduate and works as a sales consultant at Red Ventures.

  • Morgan-Melton Engagement

    Sherri and Wayne Brady and Eric Morgan announce the engagement of their daughter, Samantha Morgan, to David Melton, all of Lancaster.
    The wedding is planned for 6:00 p.m. April 27, 2013, at Rosewood on Country Club Drive in Lancaster.
    Miss Morgan is the granddaughter of Larry and Jan Honeycutt of Lancaster. She is a 2006 graduate of Buford High School and earned an associate of arts degree. She works for the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.

  • Massey-Hendrix Engagement

    Mr. William Massey and Mrs. Barbara Barrett of Lancaster announce the engagement of their daughter, Christy Massey of Lancaster, to Davey Hendrix of Kershaw.
    The wedding is planned for 2:00 p.m. Feb. 23, 2013, at Kershaw Second Baptist Church.
    Miss Massey is the granddaughter of the late Carl and Roxie Ghent and the late Roscoe and Blanche Massey. She is a 1996 graduate of Lancaster High School and a 2004 graduate of the University of South Carolina with a degree in nursing. She is a registered nurse at Palmetto Health Richland.

  • Evans-Proctor Wedding

    Karen C. Evans and Gregory Lawrence Proctor were married Sept. 22, 2012, at North Corner AME Zion Church.
    The bride is the daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth Coffey. She is a graduate of Lancaster High School and has an associate’s degree in business management and a degree in communications. She is an accredited business license specialist for the city of Lancaster.
    The groom is the son of the late John and Mable Russ. He is a graduate of St. Augustine High School in Florida. He is an equipment operator for the city of Lancaster.

  • Chesterfield Courthouse shooting suspect arrested near Pageland after police chase

    CHESTERFIELD – Two people were taken to a regional hospital and one man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after he allegedly shot them outside the Chesterfield County Courthouse parking lot.

    The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Department reported Curtis Gorney, 54, of Cheraw, allegedly shot 21-year-old Olivia Weaver and her stepfather, Donnie Nolan, from a pickup truck, then sped away. Weaver and Nolan were taken to a Florence County hospital with wounds described as non-lifethreatening.

  • Spay/neuter clinic will save money, pets’ lives

    Recently, I was talking to Joel Hinson, director of Lancaster County Animal Control. Hinson said the time is near when the animal shelter’s needs become even more critical.
    Hinson said when children are out of school and bored, their minds turn to having pets, not realizing how much of a responsibility it is to own take care of a pet.

  • Authorities search for man who tried to lure woman

    Authorities are still on the hunt for a man who reportedly tried to entice a female jogger into his van earlier this month. 

    On Feb. 1, a deputy spoke with a 28-year-old Kershaw woman who said a man tried to lure her into his white van sometime between 8:50 and 9:10 a.m., according to a Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office incident report. 

    The victim told deputies she was jogging near a gas station in the area of South Cleveland Street and Stevens Drive when an unknown white man asked her if she needed a ride.

  • Pregnancy Care Center opens Kershaw office

    KERSHAW – The local nonprofit that helps mothers in need now has a presence in southern Lancaster County.

    Last week, the Pregnancy Care Center began taking appointments at the Kershaw Area Resource Exchange (KARE) office at 110 S. Hart Street in Kershaw.

    PCC Director Julie Walters said staff realized that many of the girls and young women it sees are from the Kershaw area. In November, discussions began about the agency using space inside KARE’s building.

    An agreement was reached in December and announced last month.
