    Lancaster High School freshman basketball player Keonte Mack had an exciting Saturday before startng his high school career.

    Mack, a 6-6, 205 player, was one of 53 players invited to participate in the Clemson University basketball elite camp.

    The Indian Land Warriors had plenty to celebrate Friday night in the ninth annual Founders Federal Credit Union Kickoff Classic at IL’s Reservation where the host IL team knocked off Class AAAA county foe Lancaster High School, 19-12 to cap the prep football jamboree action.

  • Low bid leads to new lights

     Lancaster City Council has agreed on a bright idea regarding the latest phase of its Streetscape beautification project – literally.
    The city is working with a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant it received to go toward beautification efforts on South Main Street, to run from Emmons Street south just past the city limits near South Avenue.
    The city is putting up $354,000 of its own money for the work, which will include new sidewalks and curbing. This is the sixth phase of the city’s Streetscape series.

    Surprised volunteers gathered in the office of HOPE (Helping Other People Effectively) in Lancaster Director Elaine Adkins the morning of Thursday, Aug. 16, to see their cookbook for the first time.
    “HOPE for All Seasons,” which has been in production for more than two years, features 600-plus recipes from 92 food enthusiasts.

  • Morphine taken from EMS drug cabinet

    An investigation into missing morphine vials led to the arrest of a former county medic last week, according to recently released arrest records.

    Former Lancaster County Emergency Medical Services employee Thomas Gregory “Greg” Robinson, 51, 482 Monticello Road, was arrested Thursday, Aug. 16, on a charge of possession of other controlled substances in Schedules I to V, according to an S.C. Law Enforcement Division arrest warrant.

  • Lancaster men face multiple charges after pointing gun at driver in Pageland

    PAGELAND – Two Lancaster men, one a city firefighter, were arrested in Chesterfield County earlier this month on multiple charges.

    According to a Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Department incident report, Jay Thomas Rivers, 20, 5496 Pageland Highway, and Jason Damon Sanders, 22, 1848 Sunny Lane, were arrested Aug. 10 in Pageland on charges of pointing a firearm, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

  • School zone signs, speed limits now in effect

    Monday marks the first day of the 2012-13 school year for Lancaster County public school students and motorists should be prepared for a higher volume of traffic.

    More than 70 buses will be on the road early that day, carrying more than 6,000 of the county’s 11,000-plus public school students.  

    That doesn’t count the number of additional vehicles driven by parents who will accompany first-day students and those who must navigate drop-off loops at the county's 20 school campuses.

  • Pair charged in Lucky 99 burglary

    The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday, Aug. 17, the arrests of two people believed to be tied to a convenience store burglary earlier in the week.

    Travis Allen Roddey, 24, 517 Mostellar Drive, has been charged with second-degree burglary. Jessica Lyn Blackmon, 32, of Westville, has been charged with possession of stolen property, according to a sheriff’s office press release.
