    KERSHAW – Town leaders are ready to get rid of an “eyesore” and use that much-recognized site for economic development. 

    At its Monday, Nov. 18, meeting of Kershaw Town Council, Mayor Wayne Rhodes said the old Springs Industries Kershaw Plant site has become problematic.

  • Deputies seek missing IL man


    The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office is searching for Fady Salib, 23, who was last seen leaving in a cab from his Indian Land home Nov. 1.

    Sheriff’s officials say Salib has a history of mental issues and has not been taking his medication.

    A woman died in a three car accident on Charlotte Highway (U.S. 521) in Lancaster early Friday, Nov. 22.

  • Jobless rate improves for Lancaster County, state


    The state of South Carolina, overall, saw its lowest unemployment rate in five years, according to data released Friday, Nov. 22, by the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW).

  • Clyburn-Brace Wedding

    Kathy Ann Gill Clyburn and Charles Thomas Brace were married June 14, 2013.
    The bride is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Johnson and Viola Gill. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry and Carrie Jackson. She is a retired pharmaceutical technician.
    The groom is the son of Mrs. Maggie Brace of Great Falls and the late C.T. Brace. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sam and Matilla Barber. He is a graduate of Great Falls High School and attended Benedict College. He works for Cox’s Harley Davidson in Rock Hill.

  • Lowery-Gaston Engagement

    Dwight and Susan Lowery announce the engagement of their daughter, Alison Lowery, all of Heath Springs, to Eric Gaston of Fort Lawn.
    The wedding is planned for 1 p.m. Dec. 7, 2013, at Fort Lawn Baptist Church.
    Miss Lowery is the granddaughter of the late John and Shorty Dorman. She is a 2008 graduate of Andrew Jackson High School and received a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 2013. She is a registered nurse at Springs Memorial Hospital.

  • Big Thursday triumph

    Talk about streaks in the Palmetto State rivalry.
    The team of University of South Carolina Gamecocks and USC Lancaster Lancers golfers have a solid run going in the 12th annual Big Thursday Scholarship golf tournament.
    The Lancers and Gamecocks teamed for a solid 15.5-7.5 win over the Clemson University golfers Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Lancaster Golf Club.
    The golf tournament is part of the Big Thursday Scholarship Inc.’s annual dinner fundraiser at the golf club’s Fairway Room.

  • AJ’s Rowell to play at Montreat

    KERSHAW – When Andrew Jackson High School softball standout Lauren Rowell recently visited Montreat College in Montreat, N.C., she had a strong inkling she would be returning.
    “I had a great visit there,” Rowell said. “I love the campus and I had a chance to practice with the softball team. When I did, they welcomed me and it seemed they wanted me to be a part of their team.”
