  • Rowell holds lead in Pigskin Picks

    Eric “The Red” Rowell is clinging to the Picks top perch after four weeks of fearless forecasting.
    “Yeah, that’s fearless and peerless,” he said. “On top is the hot spot, even if you’re known as ‘Red.’ I need to get Red hot and be blazing.”
    Eric did miss seven, but still held his lead in the panel of seven.
    “I’m happy to be on top, but I have to dodge those seven misses,” Eric said. “Feels like I’m missing out on gaining ground.”

  • Lady Vols post two volleyball wins

    Andrew Jackson High School’s Caroline Wrenn is the Lady Volunteers volleyball player of the week for Sept. 9-13.
    AJ, during the week, swept Chesterfield, 3-0 – 25-7, 25-3 and 25-16.
    Caroline Hammond had eight attack kills and eight defensive digs.
    The Lady Vols also swept York Prep, 25-14, 25-22 and 25-12.
    On offense, Lexi Roberson, Wrenn and Madie Catoe combined for 25 attack kills.
    Defensively, Olivia Gandy had 14 good defensive digs.
    Earlier in the month, AJ dropped a 3-2 road loss to rival Buford.

  • Harrell Fuel Series winner in Shrine Race

    The annual Jackson Shrine Race saw six drivers cruise to wins at Lancaster Motor Speedway.
    In the Fuel Series, Shaun Harrell was the winner. Andrew Baker captured the Renegade checkers and Michael Deese posted the Vintage victory.
    Ronnie Mosley captured the Crate Sportsman win.
    Jonathan Hinson was the Thunder Bomber winner and Brad McManus captured the Extreme 4 win.
    Pebo Johnson won the Pure Stock V8 race.

  • Rebels jolt Jackets in 53-3 win

    MONROE, NC – The Buford Yellow Jackets’ second road game of the season wasn’t quite the same as its first trip.
    BHS, a week ago, ventured to Due West and drilled the Dixie High School Hornets, 48-0.
    Buford, 1-3 on the season, hit the road again Friday night with a short trip to Parkwood High School of Union County, N.C., and it was a long night for the Jackets.
    Parkwood pounded the Jackets in a 53-3 win in non-region play.

  • Bearcats down IL Warriors, 22-12

    INDIAN LAND – The Indian Land Warriors hosted the Class AAAAA Rock Hill Bearcats Friday night, and just like the week prior in a loss to York,  one stretch – in this case the third quarter – was the difference in Rock Hill’s tough 22-12 victory.
    Rock Hill moved the ball deep into Warriors territory twice, but the Bearcats settled for two Ethan Dutton field goals of 20 and 28 yards.
    Rock Hill led 6-0 midway through the second quarter.

  • AJ Vols unbeaten, unscored on with 34-0 win over Red Devils

    GREAT FALLS – The 10th-ranked Andrew Jackson Volunteers pushed their win streak to 4-0 and unscored run to four games with a 34-0 road win over Great Falls on Friday night in the Red Devils’ Pride Valley.
    The Vols had bolted to their 3-0 start thanks, in part, to outstanding play on defense and special teams. The opening kickoff showed more of that when the Vols recovered a Red Devils’ fumble and began their first drive inside the GFHS 25.

  • Bruins edge Falcons in 21-20 win

    Lancaster High junior quarterback Sean Truesdale said the Bruins were tired of losing, so they perked up and did something about the skid.
    The Bruins, facing 80 yards late in the game, found a way, driving the distance to deliver a 21-20 win over Class AAAAA Nation Ford High School of Fort Mill on Friday night at Memorial Stadium.
    “We had the will to win,” said Truesdale, who engineered the decisive drive in seven plays.
