  • Flat Creek wreck draws enormous roadside response, plus drug agents

    The commotion south of Buford lasted many hours Wednesday afternoon – two overturned vehicles, three airlifted victims, 11 EMS and firefighter vehicles, and about 20 law enforcement officers, including Drug Task Force agents combing the roadsides.
    It all started shortly after 1 p.m. on S.C. 522 south of Flat Creek Road, when sheriff’s investigators stopped two cars, each containing two men “believed to be associated” with a stolen truck, according to a release from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.

  • Sleeping teen in stolen vehicle admits having guns, marijuana

    A 16-year-old was arrested in Kershaw last week after deputies found him asleep in a stolen car in some woods, with drugs and a stolen weapon inside the vehicle.
    According to the incident report, a deputy was patrolling the area of Close Circle in Kershaw when he spotted a blue Hyundai Elantra through the trees with all of its windows rolled down.
    The deputy pulled his patrol car near the vehicle and found the teen asleep in the car, the report said. The deputy wrote down the dealer-tag number and took a picture of the VIN number without waking the boy.

  • Burglary at gun store

    Three suspects burglarized a Lancaster gun store early Monday morning, and authorities are seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspects from surveillance video.
    According to a release from the Lancaster Police Department, the three suspects are believed to be in their late teens to early 20s. They stole several different makes, models and calibers of handguns from Steele’s Tax and Guns, 398 S.C. 9 Bypass East, Lancaster.

  • Lancaster man charged with murder in Fort Mill

    A Lancaster man has been arrested by Fort Mill police in the Friday shooting death of a Rock Hill man.
    Jackel Marquise Clinton, 22, of Lancaster was arrested Saturday morning and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
    Clinton was denied bond on both charges and is jailed at the York County Detention Center.
    The York County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as De’mon Davis, 22, of Rock Hill.

    According to Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office reports:
    ◆ Raven Heather Hinson, 27, Christopher Sean Honeycutt, 33, Tabitha Hinson Cudd, 29, and Christopher Perry Polston, 31, were all arrested Aug. 4 on drug charges.
    Honeycutt was charged with possession of heroin. Polston was charged with possession of cocaine and methamphetamine. Hinson and Cudd were both charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Cudd was also charged with possession of methamphetamine.

  • 32 suspected drug dealers arrested in 3rd roundup since March

    Thirty-two suspected drug dealers were arrested across the county on Thursday in the third such roundup in five months, and 20 more suspects were being sought, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday.
    “Our drug task force has been relentless this year in their pursuit of people selling drugs in this county,” said Sheriff Barry Faile. “During the coming days we will continue to search for those not arrested Thursday until we get them all.”
    He listed the 20 who are still at large and urged them to turn themselves in.

  • Cops pull over robbery suspect, say he committed suicide in car

    Lloyd Michael Dove, a Lancaster man wanted in several N.C. robberies, took his own life Monday night after being stopped by sheriff’s deputies in Union County, S.C., according to a sheriff’s office statement.
    Dove, 56, was driving on S.C. 49 East in Union shortly before 8 p.m. Monday when deputies were notified that Dove and his vehicle were wanted for multiple armed robberies in Monroe, the statement said. Deputies attempted a traffic stop and Dove pulled over on the side of the road, but did not cooperate further.

  • Lancaster man charged in online child-sex case

    A Lancaster man has been charged with child-sex crimes following an investigation by the S.C. Attorney General’s Office.
    Damien Rasheed Drakeford, 23, was arrested Aug. 23 by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.
    Drakeford is charged with first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, which carries up to a 20-year prison sentence, third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor (up to 10 years), and disseminating obscene material to a person 12 years of age or younger (up to 15 years).

  • Kershaw warrant uncovers drugs, firearms and cash

    A Kershaw man was arrested Thursday by Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office Drug Task Force agents on a laundry-list of illegal drugs and firearms charges after a search warrant was served at his home.

  • Scams cost 2 Indian Land women over $62K

    Internet scams have drained the bank accounts of two Indian Land women, one blackmailed over a purported nude photo of her, the other sending $60,000 overseas to help a man she found on a dating site.
    The first victim reported July 24 that a man contacted her on Facebook and said he had a nude photo of her and would send it to all of her Facebook friends unless she sent him money. She told Lancaster County sheriff’s deputies she never sent the man any nude photos and that the photo he had was digitally altered.
