  • 2 men charged in summer robberies

    Two Charlotte men have been charged in three Lancaster County armed robberies that happened last summer.
    Jonathan Dujan Gardin, 24, is charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime in all three cases. Sergio Jermaine Patterson, 33, is charged with armed robbery in two of the incidents.
    The robberies occurred on June 5 at the Market Express Exxon on Charlotte Highway in Indian Land, June 20 at Family Dollar on Kershaw Camden Highway in Elgin and July 22 at the Quick Trip on Charlotte Highway in Indian Land.

  • Search for escapee puts VW school in lockdown

    Van Wyck Elementary was placed on lockdown Thursday morning after a man ran from authorities taking him to Rebound Behavioral Health, less than a mile from the school.
    According to a sheriff’s office press release, the 18-year-old man ran away from Darlington County deputies across the west side of U.S. 521 shortly after 10:30 a.m.

  • Man receives 7-year term in ‘vicious’ attack on his child’s mom

    A Lancaster man pleaded guilty to first-degree domestic violence and was sentenced to seven years in prison Friday, accused of brutally beating the mother of his child for the second time.

  • Embezzlement charge against ex-VFD chief Tom Pickard

    Former Indian Land Fire Chief Thomas Wayne Pickard has been charged with embezzlement of public funds, just two months after his arrest on prostitution charges.
    Pickard, 52, turned himself in Wednesday morning at the Lancaster County Detention Center. He is charged with embezzling $1,680 from the Indian Land Volunteer Fire Department last year while acting as chief, an arrest warrant said.

  • Murder at party on Arch Street

    A Lancaster man was shot dead Saturday night at a party on East Arch Street, and police are searching for a suspect in the killing.

  • Charges by the dozens for suspect in drug case

    A Lancaster man, already awaiting trial on more than 30 charges, was arrested Friday night in Rock Hill on several drug warrants from Lancaster County.

  • Driver in fatal wreck faces DUI charges

    The driver in an Indian Land wreck that killed three people and injured two others last Sunday has been charged with three counts of felony DUI.
    Felicia Shontell Coffey, 27, faces up to 25 years in prison on each of the DUI counts. She wept and thanked Magistrate Van Richardson on Friday as he set her bond at $30,000 – $10,000 for each DUI charge – along with certain restrictions.

  • Man wounded in Athena Road shooting

    An Athena Road resident was wounded early Monday when someone fired a bullet through his door, hitting him in the head.
    Doug Barfield, spokesman for the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, said the man woke to someone knocking on his door at Countryside Mobile Home Park about 5 a.m. Monday. When he went to answer it, a shot was fired through the door, Barfield said.
    The man’s injury was treated later in the day, Barfield said. It was not life-threatening.

  • Teen airlifted after she was shot at house on French St.

    A Lancaster teen was seriously wounded Saturday night when she was shot at a North French Street home in the presence of several other unsupervised juveniles.
    According to a release from the Lancaster Police Department, there were several minors inside a home in the 400 block of North French when the shooting occurred. Police responded shortly after 9 p.m. when one of the young people called 911.

  • Guard charged in SMH patient’s sex assault

    A security guard working at Springs Memorial Hospital has been charged with sexually assaulting a patient in her room Jan. 8.
    Dontrail Campbell, of 124 Tryesdale Way in Lancaster, was arrested Jan. 11 and charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct.
    According to his arrest warrant, Campbell, 21, admitted to Lancaster police that he assaulted the patient while he was assigned to guard her room.
