  • Fleeing suspect drops keys to car that contained drugs, guns, money

    Dropping a set of keys while running from a police officer on May 10 proved costly for a Lancaster man when $7,500 worth of drugs, a firearm and cash were found inside his car when the key-fob alarm was activated.

  • Man charged in theft of money, checks from business drop box

    A Lancaster man turned himself in to authorities May 4 on charges that he fished checks and cash out of a business mail slot last month.

    Phillip Perry Craig of McIlwain Road in Lancaster was charged with second-degree burglary after he was identified on surveillance video from local business Lancaster Financial.
    The thefts at Lancaster Financial began in February. The incident Craig is charged in occurred April 9. Craig was a customer of the business.

  • Murder victim’s identity released

    The hunt was still on late Friday for the shooter in Thursday’s Kershaw killing, and authorities were releasing almost no information about the case.
    The man who died was identified by the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office as 30-year-old Vincent Barry Lambert Jr. of Lexington. His family said Friday that he had recently moved to Kershaw.
    “He was always a happy person,” Lambert’s cousin Josh Twitty said. “He was always smiling, and he always saw good in everything. He was a good ol’ country boy.”

  • 5 charged in drug-trafficking busts

    The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office arrested five Lancaster residents Thursday and Friday on multiple drug-trafficking charges.
    Christopher Michael Rollings, 36, his wife Natasha Jean Rollings, 33, and William James Gainey Jr., 55, all of 2120 Barnett St., were arrested Thursday morning.
    Marqwevius Devonte Seegars, 26, and Tangie Phatrice Craig, 30, both of 254 South Avenue, were arrested early Friday.

  • Businessman charged in sex case involving 2 young teens

    Lancaster business owner and former civic leader Chris Tillman has been arrested again, this time on sex-offense charges involving two young girls, both under age 15.
    According to an arrest warrant, one of the girls told the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office in March that there had been repeated incidences over a two-year period in which Tillman sexually gratified himself by using her feet.
    The girl said this happened during teen sleepovers at Tillman’s house. She said he would find her when the lights went out or everyone else was asleep.

  • 3 charged in Fairway Drive drug raid

    Three Lancaster residents were arrested Tuesday on drug-trafficking and weapons charges at a home on Fairway Drive.
    Derrick Antonio McIlwain, 32, Kylie Reese Miller, 17, and Tyshekia Dominique Blair, 25, were charged with trafficking cocaine 10-28 grams and oxycodone 4-14 grams, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and methamphetamine, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

  • 2 arrested in Lancaster man’s killing

    Two men have been arrested in connection with the Tuesday afternoon murder of Lancaster resident Mardarius Bailey.
    Bailey was found shot near the intersection of S.C. 5 and Adnah Church Road in Rock Hill when he flagged down a Highway Patrol officer, seeking medical attention.
    Bailey died at the scene, according to the York County Coroner’s Office.

  • Police seek help in finding slot thief

    The Lancaster Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying whoever is fishing checks and cash out of drop boxes and mail slots at local apartment complexes and businesses.
    The suspect – described as a white male in his late 40s or early 50s, about 5 feet, 9 inches to 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighing between 200 and 225 pounds – may be driving a dark Chevrolet 1500 extended-cab pickup with cat-eye- style headlights, according to a police department release. The pickup may have a toolbox with a railing on top of it.

  • 3 arrested in Kershaw with drugs, guns, cash

    Three Kershaw residents were arrested March 30 on drug trafficking and weapons charges at a home on Fork Hill Road.
    Leonard King Jr., 26, Megan Melissa Woodward, 27, and Brandon Lee Payne, 34, all of Kershaw were charged with trafficking crack cocaine 100-200 grams, trafficking heroin 4-14 grams, trafficking hydrocodone 4-14 grams, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, three counts of possession with intent to distribute alprazolam and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

  • Body found with multiple gunshots

    The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an Easter morning homicide – the county’s first of the year.
    Wendell Paul Price Jr., 29, of Airport Road, Pageland, was shot multiple times at very close range, said Sheriff Jay Brooks.
    Price was found slumped in the driver’s seat of his car at the intersection of S.C. 145 and Sandy Plains Road, near the border with North Carolina about 7:45 a.m., Brooks said.
