    Lancaster Police Department officers are combing the Southside neighborhood near Hampton Road and Miller Street for suspects after a shooting in the area. The shooting vicitim may be in a car that wrecked near the intersection of Market and Gooch streets just after 3:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9. Check back later for details.

    KERSHAW – A joint law enforcement operation involving local agencies and the U.S. Marshals helped track down and arrest a Kershaw man Aug. 1 who was wanted for a shooting in Pageland last month.

    INDIAN LAND – Firefighters from Indian Land and Charlotte escorted Capt. Benjamin Odell Moore home from duty for the last time Wednesday, Aug. 7, during a funeral ceremony at Osceola United Methodist Church, steeped in the traditions of a brotherhood forged by fire.

  • Cigarette brawl leads to assault, shooting

     An argument about cigarettes outside a Lancaster apartment complex quickly escalated into a shooting and assault of two people Saturday night, Aug. 3.

    After a brief foot chase, authorities arrested Kyndra Dynise Jones, 20, 117 S. Woodlawn Drive, Brandon J'lil Thompson, 21, 4011 Stonesboro Road, Heath Springs, and Ronnel Chelvis Thompson, 21, 1739 Usher Road, according to a Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office press release. All three are charged with aggravated assault and battery. 

    Ronnel Thompson was also charged with attempted murder.

  • Two people injured in wreck on U.S. 521

     Emergency responders swarmed an overturned SUV, helping rescue two people trapped inside moments after it flipped during a two-vehicle accident along U.S. 521 Bypass between Kershaw Camden Highway and Flat Creek Road on Monday afternoon, Aug. 5. 

    The crumpled white GMC SUV could be seen resting on its roof in a grassy area near Cane Mill Road minutes after the crash, as the blades of a rescue helicopter whirred overhead. The scene is about two miles south of Lancaster.
