• David Harold 'Doc' Jordan, 85

    FORT LAWN – David Harold "Doc" Jordan, 85, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2012, at his home.  He was born Dec. 2, 1926, in Fort Lawn, a son of the late David Boyd Jordan and Mabel Ann Garrison Jordan. Mr. Jordan was a member of Fort Lawn Baptist Church and was retired from Bowater. He enjoyed farming and woodworking.
    A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Jordan was Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at Fort Lawn Baptist Church with the Revs. Drs. Ted Hodges and Ray Robinson officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.

  • Alice Jeannette Horten, 95

    CLINTON – Alice Jeannette Horten. 95, of Presbyterian Home, died Saturday, May 26, 2012.
    She was born May 9, 1917 in Rutherford, N.J. to the late Arthur and Viola Van Hoven Yereance.
    Mrs. Horten was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church, Fort Mill.
    Surviving are a son, Dr. Bruce Horten of New York City; a daughter, Heather Horten of Charlotte; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Stacy Yereance of Phoenix; as well as a sister and brother –in-law, Donald and Joyce Rose of  Crown Point, Ind.

  • Donna Knight Hegler, 62

    WAXHAW, N.C. – Donna Knight Hegler, 62, died Friday, May 25, 2012.
    She was the daughter of the late Quillan “Pete” Knight and Edna Threatt Knight.
    Survivors include two stepsons, Dale W. Hegler of Rock Hill and Damon L. Hegler of Lancaster; three brothers, Bobby Morrow of Chester, Wayne “Hoss” Knight of Lancaster and William “Bill” Knight of Heath Springs; two sisters, Phyllis Plyler of Lancaster and Susan Hasty of Waxhaw; and two step grandchildren.

  • Cali Elizabeth and Carmen Elyse Hatfield

    Cali Elizabeth and Carmen Elyse Hatfield, infant daughters of Justin’e Jay Hatfield and Summer Nicole Horton, died Monday, May 28, 2012.
    Survivors include their parents, grandparents and great-grandparents.
    Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today, May 30, 2012, at Lancaster Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Douglas Pate.
    Lancaster Funeral Home & Cremation Service is in charge.

    KERSHAW – Funeral services for Nola Dee Eubanks, 98, will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 30, 2012, at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, Jefferson, with burial in the church cemetery.

    KERSHAW – Mrs. Shelby Jean Garris Cook, 75, of Kershaw, died Monday, May 28, 2012, at her residence.
    Born Oct. 2, 1936, in Lancaster, she was a daughter of the late Ferris Garris and the late Mamie Baker Garris. Mrs. Cook was a homemaker and loved to cook and can. She was preceded in death by a brother, Herman Garris.

    Melvin Brown, 89, died Saturday, May 26, 2012.
    He was the son of the late Willie and Louis Blackmon Brown.

    ROCK HILL – Doris Hudson Blackwell, 83, died Sunday, May 27, 2012.
    She was the daughter of the late Hazel Benjamin Hudson and Thelma Brasington Hudson.
    Survivors include sons, Barry Blackwell of Rock Hill, Randy Blackwell of York; a brother, Henry Brown Hudson of Charlotte; sisters, Jessie Rowell and Willie Mae Carnes of Lancaster; five grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

  • Richard Wayne Baker, 57

    Mr. Richard Wayne Baker, 57, husband of Frances Louise Dixon Baker, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2012, at Springs Memorial Hospital. He was born Aug. 22, 1954, in Monroe, N.C., a son of Norman Richard Baker and Peggy Marcene Walters Baker. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend to many. Mr. Baker was the owner/operator of Baker Heating and Cooling and was a former heating and cooling instructor at Lancaster Vocational School. He loved to be outdoors and riding his motorcycle.
