    James Thomas ‘J.T.’ Gainey
    KERSHAW – James Thomas “J.T.” Gainey, 74, of Kershaw passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, at Springs Memorial Hospital. He was born June 26, 1937, in Jefferson, a son of the late Jessie E. Gainey and Mattie Lee Moree Gainey. Mr. Gainey was a member of Haven Creek Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and Sunday school Teacher. He was a devoted family man and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

    He was the son of the late Melvin Theodore Phillips and Pauline Blackmon Phillips. He was reared by Mable and Dock Franklin Phillips his paternal grandparents.

    Juanita Taylor Adams, 80, of Lancaster, widow of Robert Cecil Adams, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011.  She was the daughter of the late Hugh Taylor and Henretta Robinson Taylor.  
    Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews.
    Services will be at 3:30 p.m. today, Dec. 11, 2011, in the chapel of Lancaster Funeral Home.

    Joan Delores Shorten Wright, 81, of Lancaster passed away Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at Springs Memorial Hospital. She was born Oct. 8, 1930, in Princeton, N.J.,, a daughter of the late James Thomas Shorten and Mary Elizabeth Duncan Shorten. Mrs. Wright was twice widowed, by Cornelius Edward Cavanaugh and by Warren H. Wright. She was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. She was a loving Mother and Grandmother. She enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest.

    Mattie R. Williams, 100, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011.
    She was the daughter of the late John and Rebecca Williams.
    Survivors include two sons, Randolph Williams and Freeman Williams of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; two daughters, Dorothy Ingram of Lancaster and Judy Williams of Mount Vernon; a stepson, James Johnson of Heath Springs.
    Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2011, at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Willie Duncan, with burial in the church cemetery.
    Viewing will be from 1 to 7 p.m. today, Dec. 9, 2011, at Crawford Funeral Home.

    Henry Burnie “H.B.” Rollings, 73, of Lancaster passed away Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill. He was born May 8, 1938, in Lancaster, a son of the late Rev. William H. Rollings and Hattie Viola Garris Rollings. He was a charter member of Crestview Baptist Church, a member of Gideon’s International and was a Mason and member of Jackson Lodge No. 53.

    Elizabeth Roof Lucas, 91, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at Lancaster Convalescent Center, where she was a resident. She was born June 16, 1920, in Winnsboro, the daughter of the late Floyd Andrew Roof Sr. and Susie Bell Black Roof, and was the wife of the late Hazel “Red” Lucas. Mrs. Lucas retired from Springs Industries and was a member of Crestview Baptist Church.

    Hazel A. Hilton, 72
    KERSHAW – A funeral service for Hazel A. Hilton, 72, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 9, 2011, in Laurel Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Kershaw City Cemetery.
    Mr. Hilton died Tuesday, December 6, in Springdale Healthcare, Camden. Born in Kershaw County, he was the son of the late Willie Davis and Etta Mae Brasington Hilton. He retired from Springs Industries after 43 years of service and as sexton of First Baptist Church after 29 years of service. He was a graduate of Kershaw High School and attended Laurel Hill Baptist Church.
