Winds rip county

Lancaster County experienced the worst wind damage in the Carolinas from Friday’s big storm, with numerous trees falling on houses and vehicles, 10,000 immediate power outages and some residents still in the dark Sunday night.
With sustained winds of about 40 mph, the storm ripped awnings from several businesses. The brick façade of a building used by well-known nonprofit Jackie’s Place on Lancaster’s Brooklyn Avenue collapsed into the street, injuring a man who had to climb out of the rubble.
