  • The Rev. and Mrs. Charles Phillips of Lancaster announce the engagement of their daughter, Rachel Phillips, to Wylie Simpson, both of Rock Hill.

    The wedding is planned for 5 p.m. Sept. 8, 2018, at Simpsonville United Methodist Church.

    Miss Phillips is a 2015 graduate of Winthrop University with a master’s degree in English. She is a communications coordinator at York Technical College.

  • Jason and Sharon Moser of Heath Springs announce the engagement of their daughter, Kelsi Moser, to Donovan Lang, both of Lancaster.

    The wedding is planned for 4:30 p.m. Feb. 23, 2019, at Events at Manchester in Rock Hill.

    Miss Moser is a 2013 graduate of Buford High School and a 2017 graduate of the University of South Carolina in Columbia with a bachelor of science in electrical engineering. She is an application engineer at R.E. Mason in Charlotte.

  • David and Susan Hagins announce the engagement of their daughter, Sadie Olivia Hagins, to Joshua Reid Ferguson, both of Lancaster.

    The wedding is planned for 7 p.m. Nov. 2, 2018, at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Lancaster.

  • Douglas and Annette Deese announce the engagement of their daughter, Mary Megan Deese, to Richard Bryan Jenkins Jr., all of Lancaster.

    The wedding is planned for 5 p.m. Sept. 22 at The Little Ocean Events.

    Miss Deese is the granddaughter of Grady and Judy Deese of Lancaster and the late Mary Hayes. She is a 2013 graduate of Buford High School and a 2016 graduate of York Technical College with an associate’s degree in applied science. She is a certified dental assistant at Bridgehampton Dental.

    Had pioneering submariners on the Hunley released the vessel’s keel blocks, the crew might have survived their first Civil War mission. 

    On Feb. 17, 1864, the Hunley became the world’s first successful combat submarine, sinking the U.S.S. Housatonic. 

    Historical records indicate the submarine’s crew signaled to shore they were on the way back home, but instead they vanished without a trace. 

  • Performers brought some toe-tapping good times to USC Lancaster Saturday night for Habitat for Humanity of Lancaster County’s sixth-annual Bluegrass, Barbecue and Building fundraiser. 

    The BBB event raised over $15,000, topping the amount raised last year, said Nita Brown, executive director of the local Habitat chapter. 

  • Greg and Nancy Brasington of Lancaster announce the engagement of their daughter, Hannah Caroline Brasington, to Steven Andrew Snodgrass, both of Lake Wylie. 

    The wedding is planned for 4 p.m. Sept. 22 in Fort Mill. 

    Miss Brasington is the granddaughter of Buck and Doris Brasington and John and Mary Martin.  

    Mr. Snodgrass is the son of Cheryl Snodgrass and the late George Snodgrass of Steele Creek. He is the grandson of Reuben and Clara Chapman and Deloris and Cary Elliott. 

  • Bryan and Karen Faile of Kershaw announce the engagement of their daughter, Jordyn West Faile, to Austin Rutledge Duncan, both of Lancaster.

    The wedding is planned for 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, at Baker Conference Center in Kershaw.  

  • Chuck and Vickie Abernethy of Midland, N.C., announce the engagement of their daughter, Megan Johnson, to Rodney Houghtaling, both of Lancaster.

    The wedding is planned for 5:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2019, in Lancaster.

    Mr. Houghtaling is the son of Steve Houghtaling of Lancaster and Steve and Rhonda Ebersole of Heath Springs. 

  • Donna McManus Langley of Lancaster and David Alexander Moree of Kershaw were married at 4 p.m. June 2, 2018, at the Andrew Jackson State Park Chapel by the Rev. Randy Mellichamp.

    The bride is the daughter of Phil and Joyce Forbis and Vernon and Martha McManus, all of Lancaster. She is the granddaughter of the late Ira and Margaret McManus and the late Donald and Lillian Branner. She works for the town of Heath Springs.
