The Buford High School Lady Jackets soccer team continued their undefeated streak and posted a program milestone with a 6-0 win over county rival Andrew Jackson High School on Thursday at AJ’s Volunteer Stadium.

The 15-0 Buford girls, in their third season of soccer, posted their first region crown with the shutout win over the Lady Vols.

Buford High’s Victoria Hinson netted four goals and an assist in leading the Lady Jackets to their second shutout of the AJ girls this season.

Buford blanked the Lady Vols, 2-0 at Jackets Stadium on March 7. BHS, in winning the region title, is unscored on this season.

Waverly Bundy tallied two goals for the BHS girls, who led 3-0 at the half. Chaney Smith and Alexa Blackmon each had an assist for Buford.

Senior keeper and team captain Tory Knight had five saves in posting her 12th shutout on the season.

“Winning the region championship was a clear goal for this team,” Buford High girls soccer coach Bob Bowen said. “That was pretty nice.

“We played one of our best matches of the season,” Bowen said. “We made some great runs and came together well.”

AJ coach Lee Hanna lauded the Lady Jackets’ play.

“The effort that our team gave was decent,” Hanna said. “We just got beat by a well-rounded and well-coached team in Buford.

“They showed up and took care of business like they have been doing all season so far.”

Hanna praised the play of AJ keeper Sarah Sowell, who had 25 saves on the night.

“Our back line and midfield made adjustments at halftime and played better during the second half,” Hanna said.

The BHS Lady Jackets visit Class AAAA foe South Pointe High School of Rock Hill on Tuesday and host the Governor’s School of Science and Math on Thursday.

AJ, 5-8, hosts Chester on Tuesday and Lewisville on Wednesday before closing its regular season with a road match with York Prep on Thursday.
