One man died, another injured

One man has died and another was injured after a double shooting in Kershaw on Wednesday afternoon.

Lancaster County Sheriff Barry Faile said Harry Edward Blakeney, 69, was killed after he was shot near the intersection of East Church and Ingram streets in what may have been a robbery.

Another man was also shot, but managed to drive away from the scene, Faile said. He was later met by sheriff’s deputies and flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte for treatment of his injuries.

About 7 miles away, at about 3:15 p.m., deputies had taken several people into custody outside the S&G Mini Mart, 625 N. Main St., Heath Springs.

A crime scene investigator was seen standing next to a woman in handcuffs near the gas pumps outside the store.

As of 5:15 p.m., Faile said the incidents were related, but he could not confirm if anyone had been arrested in connection with the Kershaw shootings.

The double shooting came only hours after another man was shot in what Faile said may have been another attempted robbery.

That shooting happened on Pleasant Plains Road, just east of Heath Springs, off Fork Hill Road.

Faile said one man, Joel McGriff, 26, has already been arrested in the Pleasant Plains Road incident, while another suspect has been sent to a hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound.

Faile said the second suspect’s wound in the Pleasant Plain shooting may be self-inflicted.

It is unknown if the two shootings are related.
