Three men were arrested, and a fourth has been identified, in the shooting of a customer during the attempted robbery of a Lancaster convenience store earlier this month.
Following an intense investigation, authorities obtained arrest warrants for four people in connection with robbery and shooting at M&R Mini Mart on July 12.
Isaac Izail Long, 26, of Monroe, N.C., Jerfrontys O’Bryan Clyburn, 20, of Pageland, and Detrez Lamar Timmons, 19, of Wingate, N.C., were all arrested and charged with attempted murder and attempted armed robbery, according to a press release from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.
A fourth person has been identified and the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office has issued arrest warrants for the charges of attempted murder and attempted armed robbery on that person as well.
Long and Timmons remained jailed Thursday at the Union County Jail, while Clyburn is behind bars at the Lancaster County Detention Center.
Lancaster County Sheriff Barry Faile said Thursday he was pleased with the arrests.
“We are very relieved that these suspects are in jail. Our investigators and the investigators from the other involved agencies worked really hard to solve these cases. The inter-agency cooperation was a major part of this investigation,” Faile said. “Information obtained during the investigation lead us to believe that these were gang related crimes and we are thankful that these three suspects are off the streets and we will not stop until the fourth suspect is arrested. Hopefully these arrests can bring some comfort to the victims and their families.”
The investigation began at about 4 p.m. July 12 after deputies were called to M&R Mini Mart, 6152 Pageland Highway, after a report of a robbery and shooting.
M&R owner Marvin Eargle said he was sitting behind the counter watching TV and talking with a longtime patron and friend who was at the front of the store.
Eargle said he heard his friend talking to someone and as he stood, he saw a man who looked to be wearing a black “skeleton-like” mask walking back toward the front door from the front of the counter with a rifle.
He said his friend and the man had another exchange of words and the man then shot him before fleeing the scene with three or four other people.
A sheriff’s office incident report said deputies found the victim lying on the floor, bleeding from a gunshot wound to his left side just below the ribcage. The victim was then flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The incident report said two witnesses outside the store told deputies they saw a black male wearing a black T-shirt and white plaid shorts run beside and jump into what they believed was a silver SUV.
Investigators are working with authorities in Pageland and Monroe, N.C., to see if the M&R robbery is linked to armed robberies there.
