The city of Lancaster’s summer outdoor movie and concert series kicks off this week.

Caroline Hasty, events and promotions manager for the city of Lancaster, said there will be a movie on the second Saturday of each month through September.

Beginning Saturday, Hasty said families can bring chairs and blankets to the corner of Gay and Main streets for “Movies in the City.”

All the movies are free and concessions will be sold.

Pre-movie activities start at 7:30 p.m., with a movie scheduled to start about dusk (8:30 p.m.).

“You can join us under the stars for a great movie everyone in the family will enjoy,” she said. “Each month will present an opportunity for you and your family to come into the city for a new adventure under the stars.”

According to www.lancastercitysc.com, Saturday’s movie is “Yogi Bear.” Other movies are scheduled for June 11, July 9, Aug. 13, and Sept. 10.

Tetrox opens Finally Friday concert series on June 24

Finally Friday – a concert series in historic downtown Lancaster – is also returning this summer.

Hasty said concerts are scheduled for June 24, July 29, Aug. 26, Sept. 30 and Oct. 28.

Tetrox, a popular local band, will open the series on June 24, which will also feature street vendors selling a wide variety of goods and concessions.

The upcoming concert schedule is also available on the website.

And just like “Movies in the City,” Hasty said Finally Friday events are free.

She said the summer movies and concerts should support downtown merchants.

“It’s a great way to enjoy Lancaster, shop amongst local businesses and relax,” she said.
